In 1984, 1985 & 1986, the Fox Body Mustang was equipped w/a 3.8 V6 w/EFI. However, it only came w/the automatic transmission (A/T). Is there a web site available that gives a step-by-step procedure for converting the A/T to a 5-spd transmission?
Correct. The process is just like converting a 5.0 to a T5. You can even use V8 T5s with a few modifications. On Ebay, there are occassionally T5 conversion kits from V6 cars for sale. These kits all come from 94-04 V6 cars though. The 94-98 V6 T5s were rated for 265 lb/ft of torque, whereas the 99-04 V6 T5s were rate for 300 lb/ft of torque. Clearly, the 99+ T5s are preferable, but there is one issue. With your car, you will probably need a tail-housing from an 86-98 T5 to get the speedo and such working. Best of luck.
