The seats are Scat procars........the tires do rub a little .The fronts when on the steering stops and on the fender lip.....i just give the fender a pull once and a while with my fingers under the lip(caveman but it works)...the rears around the the shock mount sheetmetal on the inside and up in the wheelwell at full jounce. The lips were cut back to the spotwelds and then rolled up.
The rear tire is a 275/40 that is 10 3/4'' wide at the bulge....thats as wide of a 275 I can get in there.......I bought new rears that read that they were 275's but measure out at nearly 295....I guess it depends on the tire manufactuer. I'm planning to install the adjustable height rear lowers and coil-over fronts so i can get the car up 3/8'' to 1/2'' all around and that should take care of all the rub. The springs have settled out somewhat over the 11000 miles i have put on it

Buckeye, I'm getting my carpet from autocarpetpros.com They had an exact match to the color of carpet I need, and they don't seem to charge an arm and a leg for it.

EXCELLENT....I think with some 10 holes and quieter exhaust a man could make quite a bit of money in late night clandestine activites....

if one were so inclined..=)

When it hits the streets it will be somewhat quieter. It has 3 inch single exhaust that exits right behind rear wheel in stock location. And I have steel wheels painted to match car with little chrome centercaps going on it.Having the front wheels cut and made into 15x4 skinnys

That was a SICK vid! Was that a 4 gear burnout? Definitely would like to see some more pics, maybe of the exhaust too. I am making some progress with mine as well.. Just need a few more days and she'll run. I'm trying to run all the ugly wiring to the fenders.

Looking real good. Mine has all the Mustang wiring harness exposed and I hope to re-route it next time I have the engine out, Ken.

Yup, Summit 4-in-1 gauge. Fits right where the old 4" fuel gauge used to be For $119 it's worth it. Displays RPMs, Water Temp, Oil Press, Voltage, all sending units, adapters, and it comes with a settable shift light. I relocated the fuel gauge to the PRNDL window in the center. With the battery in the trunk, it makes hiding the wires a little easier. I mounted the starter solenoid in the pass. kick area. All relays are going there as well.

Oh wow! So glad I found this site!

My neighbor has an '86 LTD he's going to start modding, and I'm looking for one myself now.

If anyone can help me track down a four-door LTD or Fairmont, I'd appreciate it. I'm in Oregon.

I don't know if there are stripper models, models with manual trannies...etc... Something that might let me start with an edge. Does anyone know of any good website to read up on these cars?

We need a dedicated forum or section. Anyone volunteer to answer stupid questions for me? Haha.

Fuzzy, check on Ebay. There are always a couple/few Fairmont/Zephyrs listed there. I know a couple of times in the past couple months there have been late model year (I think they were both '85) white 4-door LTDs advertised by a state liquidator up there in OR. Basically, they were both government cars that were being auctioned off. Here's one of them, which I actually posted a link to in this thread 5 or 6 weeks ago. As you can see, there were 0 bids on that auction, so maybe you can try contacting that company to see if they still have it? Or even if they sold that one, maybe they can get you one?

You can also check your local craigslist.

AFAIK there were no manual transmission models, but it's not too hard to put a stick in one. If you look earlier in this thread there's a little bit of discussion of what it takes.

As for stripper models, someone else can correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I think that for the first couple years there was the Fairmont, which was the base model, and then there was the Futura, which was a bit nicer. In the later model years there was also the LTD. The early model years were the lightest, and the cars got steadily heavier over the years.

You can find some websites with info - like http://www.ford-fox.org/ or http://groups.msn.com/FAIRMONT302/welcome.msnw - but I haven't found any that are a real good source with pictures and explanations of the different models.

Pat

Just searching around right now I found this site - http://www.ford-fox.org/ - looks like it could be a good resource. Here's another that might be useful - http://groups.msn.com/FAIRMONT302/welcome.msnw.

Pat

yes a manual trans was available. you could go from stripper to loaded. i had a 79 zephyr 4 door, maunual 4 speed, 4 cyl, manual brakes/steering. the only option was a heater.

my 4dr 1979 fairmont claims to be 2800lbs according to the south carolina title I mean the thing has aluminum bumpers with holes drilled in the bumper supports from the factory. I wish I would have thought to weigh it before I started the transformation but I didn't...so all I will have to go by is how much it weighs once I'm done.

I found this one on cardomain. Car kinda looks familiar to me......oh wait its mine. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/678820 I`m in the process of swapping larger rotors in the front.....no fancy big brake setup....hell not even 5 bolt conversion. Simple 11" 4 lug 87-93 rotors and calipers....its better than the stock 10 inch. My reason for this route? Simple... I like my 15" turbine rims, big brake conversions require larger rims and I just spent close to 800 on new yokohama boots on all 4 corners. 11" rotors I know will fit inside a 15 inch rim.

Brian,

Looking good, and I know its fast as all hell...

Looking at the car again from the side - damn that thing just sits mean.

Which turbo is that? (it's pretty darn big)

I know you probably have it setup to be quiet as hell too... Probably sounds like a jet liner taking off
after getting off the line.

And how is the chassis/suspension on that car now?

Bryan's is my favorite too-- it was the motivating factor for my project.
I finally got the wiring squared away and turned the key, and it fired right up for the first time

Thanks Dennis! Man I havent seen you in a long time.

Its a large frame 88 from Majestic Turbo. Its not that quiet. Exhaust dumps just before the trans with a shortened bullet muffler just after the turbo.

The suspension is ok. I still cant get the car to run better than a 1.46 sixty. If I could get it off the line quicker it would probabbly run pretty decent!

Just to get this back to the top for emeraldcoupe. I'd be pretty tempted to pick his car up myself if it weren't so far away.
