Bassani Question

So I bought a OR Dr. Gas x pipe to go along with my bassani mufflers. I am now debating on going back to cats.... First of all I live in California and emmisions sucks. So dont want to get jacked for that. And plus I have heard alot of people say that bassani sounds better catted anyways. Help me with this decision.

The cats might cost you only 5 hp.

So have you already installed the Dr. Gas pipe or did you just buy it then think about it? How often do you have emissions? I have them every 2 years so I got a waiver for my 88 and 95, although I put emissions off abotu 8 months before they really sstarted threatening me, . Personally from the sound of my car with o/f Dr. Gas, my friends 87 Gt convertible and a few other's, I'd go off-road, and when emissions comes around just swap it out. I would if I had to, but I don't.

well.... there is alot of street racing where I live and cops pull people over all the time. Im not worried about PASSING smog, Ill just put the stock h pipe back on. Im worried about a cop pulling me over for illegal exhaust and in Cali I have heard you get effed in the A for not having cats. So.... just not sure what to do. I think I might just put the ORX on and see how loud it is.

Yeah, thats what I'd do, if it causes trouble, hey, sell it, mint Off road X-pipe with 50 miles on it, too loud for me, got pulled over, lolz. Seriously though, I'd at least try it out, Cali is very different from where I live, we have street racing that goes on, but for the most part unless you are doing 20 over a cop won't pull you over. I had a nice talk with one the other night at Mc. Donalds at 2 A.M. We chatted a little and he said unless someone is doing 20mph over he won't look at them twice, but again because the areas in which we live are so different you prolly won't find a solid answer of what to do, so jsut try it out.

I had both. Actually prefer the catted x to the Dr. Gas as far as sound. The offroad was really loud (not as in loud that I couldn't stand it, loud as in the police would look at you if you didn't idle by.)

You're not losing much hp wise as mentioned before. I dyno'd before and after and it was marginal. A cold day versus warm day was more of a factor.

Just my .02 cents.

I have the Bassani cat-back on mine and I had the Bassani catted X on it and it had a nice deep throaty sound and sounded good at wot. I tried a bassani off-road X and it sounded bad, real kackly and high pitched. For one last try I put a BBK off-road H-pipe on it and it sounds the best. It got rid of the raspy sound and has a real agressive tone at wot. I still have no drone or anything and it's pretty quiet just cruisin along. Plus, the real miracle was that the bbk off-road H-pipe fit perfect with no mods. I love the bassani stainless stuff, but I like the mean sound of the H-pipe more. If you actually look at a x-pipe and a h-pipe, it is very hard to believe a x-pipe flows better than a H. My bassani x looks like the exhaust just crashs into the center of the X-part and doesn't look like a smooth transition. The H-pipe looks like the exhaust can just shoot right straight thru. But the X-pipes seem to be what guys want today. Today it's chocolate, tomorrow it's strawberry. I really bet you will like the sound better with the catted X over the off-road X with bassani mufflers.

the problem I had with the bassani catted x was fitment. on my lowered car, I was draggin, scraping on a lot of things...most importantly pulling into my driveway.

I have the magnaflow with bbk catted h pipe on now. Unfortunately, doesn't sounds nearly as good, but the fit is a lot better. Everything is tucked under and I'm not scraping anything...trade-offs.
