How light is your stang?

Well, I have always been an advocate for a light light car. My 88 coupe only weighs 2450 lbs before I get in. Just how light is your stang?

My car is actually going on 2 stage diet. First stage is getting a new one piece fiberglass front end. 2nd stage...coming next year, is a new cromoly cage.

Holy ****, you're getting anorexic!

Just what all is that bad boy missing?

My stock 86LX is 3120 w/o me, and no attempts to lighten it yet.

3140 w/o driver in my 87LX hatchback. Stock engine (iron heads)

Added Weight:
- Eaton supercharger
- Full length Subframes
- 6Pt Cage

Removed Weight:
- Spare tire & Jack
- Fiberglass hood

I'm sure the 6-point cage probably doesn't help with the weight....

3150-3200 with me in it, no AC, no smog, draglites, and Slicks...

I like driving too much on the street to try and get every ounce out of it, but glass hood, tubular K member, and some other things would be very nice to have!

My '93 vert weighs 2900 with the spare tire, and a good amount of crap in the trunk. Where are you planning on getting the front end? I was looking for one last night on Racecraft's website, because I know they used to sell one, but they no longer offer it (at least online). If you plan on waiting a few months before buying it, see if you can find a discount if you have two buyers.

If it does not make me go fast...I took it off. I now have fiberglass doors, fiberglass trunk lid, lexan windows, as well as removed the spare tire well. My interior is a drag racing bucket and a ten point cage...oh, and a nitrous bottle...looking to get this thing to be sub 2500 lbs WITH ME IN IT by the end of next year.....

I'd love to get my vert under 2500lbs, but we'll just have to see if I can afford it.

Thats awsome! Mines pretty gutted for a street car to get it around 2730 w/o me. It still has all the interior stuff though.
How much did the spare tire well save you? I could cut it out and just cover the hole with sheetmetal or something. ??? I'd only do that if it would save me some good weight.
What about a lexan rear window? You know how much that saved you?

Thanks, Greg

2730 with interior is really good. My old GT weighed 2740 with a ten point cage but I had nooooooooooo interior in that car either.

I couldn't tell u exactly how much each thing saved. I just had a compilation of light weight techniques that helped get the car light. I do know that lexan saved a bundle, but I'm pretty sure the front window was a huge savings compared to the back window (coupe).

im not sure i'd want the lexan front since it's my street car. haha I could probably deal with the back though.
I was thinking about taking all my heater stuff out, but my friend says its only about 20lbs. I dont think it's worth that.
I do have an 8 point cage.
I can really take anything else off the front except maybe some areospace brakes.

Well, I had a LOT of my friends that kept saying 'why are you taking that out, it only weighs xx pounds'. In my opinion, every ounce or pound adds up. Lets just put it this way....the motor in my car now went 10.45 at 134 in my best friends' 67 Camaro that weighed 3300 lbs with him in it. My Mustang weighs 2650 with me in it and it went 9.80 at 137 letting off and getting back in it on the first pass in the car. By end of day it went 9.56 at 141...hell, thats nearly a full second, just on weight!!!!

I am a huge advocate for taking something out of the car if it dont make ya go fast. I understand your logic on the windows because it takes the 'street car' affect away. However, the heater...yank it. It is in the front half of the car so taking weight out of the front will always help with weight transfer.

haha, i hear ya. My chebby friends are always laughing at me when i do little **** like grinding the extra off bolts, taking my passinger side windshield wiper off, or only filling the radiator half way.
They all have 383 strokers and not one can beat me even when i had my 306 in.
Yet they still will not do weight savings.

My LX hatch with a Aluminum headed 414, tubular k-member, 10 point cage was 2880 without me in it but the cool thing was it has 52/48 weight distribution. The bad thing is when I get in it adds 275lbs. I am in the middle of cutting out the side impact door beams, gutting under the dash, replacing the lower radiator support with some small square tube and losing 50lbs of me. Hopefully I can get it under 3000 with me in it. If anyone knows any other places to take some weight out and keep it street looking let me know.

Wheeew! I'm glad it isn't 4 years ago Bob, my coupe was 3420lbs with me woudl have bumped you down to 3rd LOL! Now after some strategic removal I'm down to 3170lbs with me (265lbs). My goal is 3000lbs with me, ready to roll. I'm going to hav eto fire up the cutting equipment because I doubt I'm going to lose 170lbs LOL!

When i bought my coupe the guy told me he took out the metal behind the bumper cover and it was like 70 pounds. It wouldnt be good if you got in a wreck but it will shed some weight off the front for transfer reasons.

I've got a pig. 3450 with me in it the last time to the scales. Aluminum heads and no A/C, P/S or smog. It is an AOD GT hatch tho. I'd like to get about 200 pounds out of it this winter. Ordering an AJE front end with coil overs right after Christmas. Might do a 'glass hood too. Also gotta relocate the battery, but that's actually going to add weight to the car.

Anybody got a good way to pull the fog light bar and leave the lights in? I'd like to keep em, but the brace that runs between them has got to weigh 20lbs. I'd also like to keep the lower part of the bumper cover from flapping all over the place.

Don't waste your time doing this unless you need a flat surface in the trunk like I did. I replaced the well with a piece of sheet aluminum and the sheet metal weighs as much if not more than the well I cut out. I thought the well was heavier than that but I was wrong. My only benefit from removing the well was it gave me a flat surface to mount the fuel cell on.

My car weighs 2810 w/o me in it. Has 2 racing seats with factory tracks. Looks stock on the inside (other than the seat change) but has no power anything or heat-a/c.
