FR550 valvetrain on Mach1???

I know the machs have different heads than the 01 cobras so does anyone know if this kit would even fit on a mach 1. Also how much HP are you getting from this mod from a just bolt on car with no power adders? What are the diferences in the cam sizes too.

Thanks

I believe the mach 1 has the same heads as the NEW cobra and marauder. I think they are 99 cobra intake cams and navigator exhaust cams. I think the FR500 kit should fit any tumble port head.

E-mail Chris at administrator@eastsidemotorsports.net . He added this to his own motor and has worked with others that have done so as well. He just doesn't frequent this board everyday, so e-mail will be much faster for you.

Consider posting his reply, since quite a few of us would like to know the answer to your question. I'm sure he doesn't want to get several emails asking the same questions. Thanks.

The FR500 kit has...Cams, springs, valves, cam followers, valve stem seals, and four new sprocket bolts. All high quality parts. It's worth about 18-20 hp on a mild engine and I have seen it make 800+ at 20 pounds of boost.

I'm not too sure why you would want to do this swap on a Mach 1 4V???

Hp/Tq improvements probably wouldn't be as high on the later '03+ improved heads as on the earlier '96 - '01 heads...

Heres the reply I got from chris:

The FR500 Valvetrain Kit comes with the following items:

FR500 cams .472 lift @.050 duration around 209x/219i
High flow stainless steel valves (as good or better than any on the market)
High rev/higher strength rockers
High lift/high strength springs w/ titanium retainers
As far as power is concerned, Its hard to know. FRPP doesn't give any power figures for the kit by itself, and when i put the kit on my motor, i did alot of other things as well. But if I was forced to guess, i'd say about 15rwhp & 25rwtq (on a bone stock application). The FR500 valvetrain kits' main focus is to provide a strong flat TQ curve while increasing HP as well. You will NOT see peaky gains with these cams. Rather, you'll see a TQ/HP gain across the curve. Lots of people tend to focus on "peak" numbers, but anyone who's 'informed' understands that its the "Area Under the Curve" that counts. If you interested in the kit, let me know. I can have it to your door in 3 days...

I wonder what an upper/lower ported and polished, spacer, and fr500 kit would gain?

good info boss. The info i provided was based on a chart i used at Hensler Racing. And that is because FRPP does not advertise the cam specs as we would like. Accordinng to Hensler's conversion chart, 12mm lift = .472@050. As for the dur, i knew i was close, but not right on the money...

Not according to my sources. thanks for your opinion though...
And i've seen the rockers, I dont know where they sourced them from but i do know that they ARE much beefier than my stockers (the whole body of the rocker that is)...

How involved is the install of the kit? In other words, how many hours of labor (estimate) to install?

Let me set you straight - again.
The rockers used in the FR500 kit were originally used in the 4.0L SOHC engine. Ford changed the 4.0L SOHC rockers for cost cutting reasons a couple of years ago. These FR rockers are not special design/high performance pieces. Just old stock 4.0L SOHC.

That's a fact not an opinion!

You need to pull the engine, remove the heads etc etc etc. Installing the kit requires a valve job.

If the heads are off the block or soon going to be, it's the best bang for the buck out there.

do you have to get new lash adjusters also, or can you reuse your old ones?
Are the angles different on the new valves?

I've searched for days and cannot find a sound clip of the fr500 valvetrain. I really would like to hear how they sound. I know they won't lobe very much, but I still want to hear a difference. The amount of parts included in this kit is awesome. You can't piece this kit together any cheaper! Can't wait to order mine....anyone know where I can get a sound clip of a near stock 4v with fr500 valvetrain?

wow it does sound a lot like stock...you have to really listen to hear any lobe. Still cool in my book. How is the performance with this kit (seat of pants wise)?
