Eaton powered '03 Cobra - 9.94 @ 135!

car ran friggin AWESOME today. so damn consistant its not even funny. track was great for my first 4 passes or so and then it started to go away. temps wer eonly in the mid to high 50s. DA was around -100 to 0 all day so great air.

unfortunately I could NOT back the pass up. the 9 was my best 60' of the day by .014 and I just could not duplicate it. here are the pass breakdowns

YESTERDAY - decent air, big cross wind and sometimes slight headwind

run1 - left lane
1.41
6.46 @ 106.06
10.17 @ 131.99

run 2 - left lane
1.37
6.39 @ 106.89
10.08 @ 133.05

run 3 - left lane
1.38
6.41 @ 106.75
10.10 @ 132.59

then I decided to add a degree of timing to the car. so now we are at a total of 24 degree's

cut a 1.39 60' and blew the tires off. so I ended the day here, lef the car there and went back up today knowing the weather was going to be better.

first pass - left lane - still at 24 degree's
1.37
6.37 @ 107.49
10.02 @ 134.00

2nd pass - right lane...heard it was hooking hard and raced a friend of mine

1.363
4.059
6.316 @ 108.52
8.277
9.941 @ 135.21

to his 9.95!!! I was so pumped!!!! then I jumped in the gamblers race for $20.

3rd pass
9.95 dial in - left lane
.012 light
1.37
6.36 @ 107.79
10.01 @ 134.27 - WIN

4th pass
9.97 dial in - right lane...4pm and started cooling off
.042 light
1.37
6.36 @ 107.88
10.00 @ 134.40 - WIN

5th pass
9.99 dial in - right lane
.137 light (asleep but other gy red lit!)
1.38
6.38 @ 107.93 then got a lil loose
10.02 @ 134.39 - WIN

final race...against the same friend from the 9 sec pass!
10.00 dial in - left lane
.062 light (he red lit!)
1.42
6.47 @ 106.81

at this point the car was all over the place and I wasnt paying attention till about the 1000' where I saw my win light and got out of it. coasted to a 10.17 @ 126.18

all the passes are on video and Ill compile them but here is the 9.94 pass from another fellow SVT enthusiest camera. He was nice enough to PM me asking if that was me running 9s and sent me HIS video

here is the major stuff Ive done

JLT CAI
SCT2400
Posi Ported Dragon TB
Posi "re-ported" Eaton
2.93 / 4# pullies
Nazty Lower intake
full exhaust, no dumps - Mac longtubes, no cats, SLP LM1
Meziere water pump
Reische 170 stat
A/C delete
PS delete
PB delete
EGR Delete
HE delete
NGK TR6s
Stock fuel system / pumps with BAP
60# injectors
Trunk mount IC tank
rear seat delete

Frank Lupo C4 w/ 4800 stall
SRA 8.8 with 4.10s and spool

tubular k / arms with 14" 175# coil overs
tokico drag struts
rear stock style suspension w/ upr arms
stock gt springs cut 3/4 coil
strange 10 way shocks
anti roll bar

8 point roll bar and through the floor sub frames

there is more but all little stuff here and there. car has full interior (carpet / panels) with 8 point roll bar in it. all power windows / locks and working radio remain intact (minus rear amp deck).

cars weight was 3320#s w/ me in it.

this car made 495/500 on a dyn0jet with the 6 speed and SRA 4 years ago. I would venture to say now it would prob be around 520ish to 530ish on my tuner's dyno now with the a/c out, ps out, meziere pump and dragon tb / Naz Lower intake and Posi's re-port. so it was one of the lower dyno number cars.

Great work man, thats the right way to do a Cobra.

I went to an SVT meet at the local track and left unimpressed. Mostly broken tailshafts, halfshafts, and clutch probs... oh and awful 60 foot times. It was a bunch of 11 sec cars.

All problems which you have solved.

Great work!!!

That's fast! Then I saw C4 and 8.8, and went ahhhhhhh!!! I even showed my girl and she saw the post of mods below and 1stpointed out the 8.8 and c4. That's a lot of work to get to 9.94. It should run that fast with the converter, C4, and 8.8..... You can picture my face when I saw 1.36 60ft before I read it had an 8.8!! lol..... I never really "race" my Cobras. Probably go 11.6 or 11.7. I wonder what the best 60ft time running the IRS of all time? lol.. On stock halfshafts and say DSS shafts. I would just take that car a few steps further. Sounds like you have the suspension to tae the car deep into the 8's. I smell a Bell 3.4, or an 88mm turbo on the way!!! lol.. Good luck building that beast.

Suspension is key to drag racing. If you run 1.36 60's than your suspension is dialed in well. You also have a good C4, converter, and solid axle. So it's not an 03 /04 in stock suspension, transmission configuration. Yes, its easy to run high 9's with your set up. If it was a stock trans and IRS then it would be very impressive. You've basically made the car a racecar by the addition of the C4, converter, and 8.8. So with this set up, you don't need gobs of HP to run a good E.T. So congrats to you for turning an IRS car into a solid axle car, a stick car into an automatic (with a good converter), and drag suspension. Still, 9.94 is fast. It's just not in "stock 03/04 cobra configuration" anymore. Thats all.

your obviously one of the 03 cobra purists...out of the hundreds of replies I have gotten to this...your the only negative one.

since when is a c4/solid axle a drag setup? I guess all 60s and 70s mustangs were drag cars...

if it was stock irs and 6 speed...I would have said that....and imo..this CANNOT be done with those things. so i took out the garbage....which the irs is...garbage...and made it better.

My 65 is a race car has a PA C4 and Neal Chance converter and a Curry 9in wth 33 spline. 3 yrs ago it was a stock 289, stock C4, and solid stock solid rear, and was not a race car. It was a street car. Now it is a race car just like your cobra that has a built C4, converter, and a good 8.8......

if it was stock irs and 6 speed...I would have said that....and imo..this CANNOT be done with those things. so i took out the garbage....which the irs is...garbage...and made it better.
Absolutely you did...That was my point......You took out the garbage
It was not meant as negative....... Thats why some posts are taken out of context. If we were face to face, it would have been just a conversation. I said it was still fast, right? I said your suspension had to be good. I said good luck. Dude, I do not argue with "Mustang people". If you drove a Chevy, I would have already crushed you. I' m good at it. lol.... I was just stating some facts. If we were at the race track, I would be rooting for you whole heartedly, 100%. You're in a Ford. It's still not a Terminator in stock form though.

If you had ANY CAR it would never run 9s in "STOCK" form like you said. The guy did it with a friggen eaton that ALONE is key! IM pretty postive that hes never even had his motor apart in that car.. Never mind what happened to him when he 1st put the c4 in. 100 impressive no other way to look at it.

i love this...

i guess it's not garbage to take a car designed around a solid axel and improvise an IRS to fit, just to say it has one. ever wonder why all 05+ cars have solids? bc IRS is garbage. it's for rice. real cars race with solids lol

including the new "cobra's"...gt500s. I watch everyone break them. that bad boy was gone within 2 months of owning the car. If I wanted a comfy ride, I would have bought bmw.

yeah, the gt500 were what i was referring to. i agree with the comfy thing. i have friends that worry about road noise when they upgrade parts; i'm like you drive a mustang!!! lol

mustangs are the premier drag car. over the years, what other production car is dragged more than a mustang? speaking of the IRS, imagine how much weight you saved, let alone the strength and consistency you gained...

It's still not a Terminator in stock form though.
its a stock motor....thats all I said and always have said. the way it came from ford sans bolt ons and a ported factory blower....

no...oh it had a cam.....no H/C/I.....no nitrous....FACTORY STOCK LONGBLOCK. I never said it was more than that. you are...

your obviously missing the point to this. it was a huge thing when someone went 10.9s in an eaton oh like 5 years ago. people couldnt believe a factory stock powered Mustang could do that. NO ONE has ever gone into the 9s. most stick with the 6 speed and Ive seen 10.30s to 10.50s in that setup. people have tried and no one has done it. even I didnt think it could be done and took a longshot on doing a c4 in the car and after 40 passes or so trying to set it up, it made the pass. sure it has a solid axle...sure it has an auto (which is way more fun anyways) but it was done through the powerplant Ford provided me with. are there even ANY other cars that have done this? maybe there are...I dont know.

I bet if I slapped an aftermarket blower on and went 8s you would tear that down too so its hopeless

Never mind what happened to him when he 1st put the c4 in. 100 impressive no other way to look at it.

Yeaah Dave a good man helped me get my motor together. I'm sure I'll see your car around next season. Who sets up your suspension ?

Jake, quick question. You mentioned the auto being more fun than the stick. I could see it being less stressful but more fun? How about if you still drove the car on the street, which I know you don't, but if you did would you regret going auto?

Congrats by the way.

whaaaaat? I had it at the Gilette cruise night last month! its just been seeing ALOT of racing this year. its still registered and inspected!

on the street...still more fun. the car is so much faster. its the high hp that keeps the fun factor imo. you need at least 500hp....anything less I can see keeping the stick. ask ANY Terminator owner with a twin screw or tubro that switched to an auto how they like it. they will all tell you how skeptical they were and how wrong they were.
