Right now I'm running dual 2.25 into thrush 2 chamber welded mufflers with 2.25 tailpipes long tube headers making 500whp with a procharger on a 351c.
Would like to hear what mufflers you bigger hp guys are running and what size.
I see a pattern with the xpipe.Does it help with reducing back presssure or sound? Most test that I've read only show moderate increase in power from them, like 5-8whp.
I have a 3 inch h-pipe into 3 inch walker race magnums into 3 inch flowmaster tailpipes.
Headers are 2 inch primary.
Over 1000 rwhp

While the power increase is nice, I went that route just for something different. H-pipes are kinda like ########.....everybody's got one. I love the way mine sounds.

theres a few hp up top with an X-pipe, not a ton. most go with it for the sound, higher pitched up top and not as "boomy" down low.

As far as the original question, a lot of power can be made through a basic exhaust that isn't oversized. I made 670 rwhp through 1 5/8 shorty headers, a 2.5 inch h-pipe, 2.5 inch dynomax mufflers and 2.5 inch tailpipes.

What are you doing for suspenion on that car? C-4? What size 17' tire? Looks like it leaves straight as an arrow with no drama. That's one hell of a car you've put together to run down the track like that!

I know hp can be made thru small exhaust, just how muchhp am I leaving on the table with kink bent 2.25 exhaust? Anyone have any before and after results?
I am running 1-3/4" Accufab longtubes, 3" Dr gas X, 3" Dynomax Ultraflos, 3" tails on my 347 Ysi combo. I don't have any numbers, but I am heading to the dyno tomorrow.
I would say your leaving a decent amount of power on the table
what are the engine specs?
I run 3" with h pipe and dumps and make around 525 fwhp
351c .030 over,stock 4v iron heads 9:1 comp.decent cam good valve springs,blow thru carb p1sc spinning to 58k 10psi boost total timing with meth 29 degrees.Long tube headers c4 trans 3.90 ford 9inch. In a 3800lb TANK!
have made damn close to 700 rwhp with 1 3/4" shorties, 3 in all the way back through 2 chamber flows, tail pipes
could have made more but that was on straight pump gas. when i get my motor back i plan on changing to dynomax ultraflows and meth so who knows what it will make then

x2. I made similar power with the same stuff. 2.5" Dynomax Ultra flows and tail pipes. It ran 9's @ 140mph in the quarter.
Would it have made more power with a 3" system? Maybe a little. Not enough for me to justify the cost and effort. Plus I refused to put long tubes on my lowered street car anyways.

Why don't you like longtubes? I run longtubes and my car is low. I did had my headers modified to be tight under the car.

Long tubes can be a pita to install. Most have fitment issues. They hang low unless modified like yours. lots of heat. Stuff like that.
I thought about making a custom set of headers, maybe a mid length. But i figured if I was going to make headers I would make turbo headers. hahaha

I used a set of Mac 1 3/4 shorties and the flowmaster full 3 inch kit minus the tail pipes, ran dumps made 725rwhp on a safe tune with that set up, now I have Kooks 1 7/8 with 3.5 bullets no numbers yet.
THANKS, everyone that posted has bigger and better exhaust than mine.I think it's time to upgrade. Dynomax ultraflow muffler with 2.5 all the way back should be ok for my setup
I wish there were some blown mustangs local to me.Would like to get a comparison of exhaust and hp against mine. I'm tired of ls1 this ls2 that and bbc's.. Chevy pops a decent head on a aluminum sbc and everyone thinks it's gods gift to gearheads. My 351c with a .510 lift cam n/a made 300whp stock iron 1972 heads. Now thats a gift!
