Well, I wouldn't consider my car to have big HP by today's standards, but here goes:

1 3/4" Bassani shorties
2 1/2" Hi-flow catted x-pipe
3 Chamber Flowmaster
2 1/2" tailpipes

550rwhp

I see a pattern with the xpipe.Does it help with reducing back presssure or sound? Most test that I've read only show moderate increase in power from them, like 5-8whp.

While the power increase is nice, I went that route just for something different. H-pipes are kinda like ########.....everybody's got one. I love the way mine sounds.

theres a few hp up top with an X-pipe, not a ton. most go with it for the sound, higher pitched up top and not as "boomy" down low.

Here is a video

As far as the original question, a lot of power can be made through a basic exhaust that isn't oversized. I made 670 rwhp through 1 5/8 shorty headers, a 2.5 inch h-pipe, 2.5 inch dynomax mufflers and 2.5 inch tailpipes.

What are you doing for suspenion on that car? C-4? What size 17' tire? Looks like it leaves straight as an arrow with no drama. That's one hell of a car you've put together to run down the track like that!

I am running BBK 1 3/4 long tubes, Dr. Gas 2 1/2 x-pipe, Mac 2 1/2 pro dumps.

I made 635 rwhp and 605 rwtq.

I would imagine that I could make more with 3".

x2. I made similar power with the same stuff. 2.5" Dynomax Ultra flows and tail pipes. It ran 9's @ 140mph in the quarter.

Would it have made more power with a 3" system? Maybe a little. Not enough for me to justify the cost and effort. Plus I refused to put long tubes on my lowered street car anyways.

Why don't you like longtubes? I run longtubes and my car is low. I did had my headers modified to be tight under the car.

I won't run them either. Just not worth all the effort in IMO. Of course I've never had a set of of Kooks with slip on collectors either.

Long tubes can be a pita to install. Most have fitment issues. They hang low unless modified like yours. lots of heat. Stuff like that.

I thought about making a custom set of headers, maybe a mid length. But i figured if I was going to make headers I would make turbo headers. hahaha

I used a set of Mac 1 3/4 shorties and the flowmaster full 3 inch kit minus the tail pipes, ran dumps made 725rwhp on a safe tune with that set up, now I have Kooks 1 7/8 with 3.5 bullets no numbers yet.

Sounds stock?? Thats huge exhaust.

I wish there were some blown mustangs local to me.Would like to get a comparison of exhaust and hp against mine. I'm tired of ls1 this ls2 that and bbc's.. Chevy pops a decent head on a aluminum sbc and everyone thinks it's gods gift to gearheads. My 351c with a .510 lift cam n/a made 300whp stock iron 1972 heads. Now thats a gift!
