Single turbo tailpipes no mufflers?
I'm looking for anyone out there who has a single turbo with full tailpipes but no mufflers...curious if it is loud. My exhaust is a 3.5" dp to a 2.5" ypipe into Flowmaster hpipe-back 2.5" tailpiped exhaust. I know, chambered sucks, but I did it to get the correct alignment of the tailpipes and the ball-socket flanges up front. I'm then going to hold everything in place and cut out the mufflers and either put in straight pipe or a straight thru muffler. I love that it is so quiet now
I got so used to the supercharged engine and cutoff tailpipes...man I love that drone...NOT! Then I did a temp exhaust which was a 3.5" single all the way to the axle..sounded like a dern LT1. Now I'm halfway content, I just don't want to throw the power away when I don't have to.Thanks, Jesse

I think this one has straight pipes. If I had the skills, I would fab me something up like that.

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/3...ea0150d4a0.htm I simply bypassed the mufflers with some straight pipes attached with the same ball/socket setup. I will say that the flowmasters were SOOOOOOO quiet with the turbo's, almost more-so than stock! There is no mistaking now that the car has something under the hood. Most think it's a blower whine....likely because they have no clue what a turbo whistle is.

By most DOT standards, yes...but it doesn't exactly do a great job of muffling. I just want to get a feel from someone else who has already done this.

So let me pull teeth from you so we can stay on topic...have you an a single with dual exhaust and no mufflers? If so, is it obnoxiously loud? Does it drone in the car? Is it any louder than an NA car with the chambered mufflers?

It is louder to me than an n/a car with mufflers. I had an n/a 331 with flows, and went turbo and the car sounded stock to me. So I had the flows cut off. I am now contemplating whether to buy some ultra flo ss mufflers or just have the flows put back on. Oh yeah BG single kit, 3.5" dp to y 2.5" with tailpipes.

i am driving my single 80 with just a downpipe until i get around to adding a muffler. its not really all that loud. i am only putting a bullet muffler on it anyway. i figured i would only need a few decibles to quiet the turbo down.
