Vortech V2 - Bad bearing?

Hi there.

After 2 rebuilds under warranty (leaking seals), here's the sound of my Vortech V2 after a fresh install:
http://videos.streetfire.net/video/V...ing_643610.htm
http://videos.streetfire.net/video/V...ing_643587.htm

The first video is less than 1 inch away from the blower with 2 high-quality microphones, so the sound is a bit amplified.

Does it sound bad to you? Before sending the unit to Vortech, I don't remember hearing this "bee sound" mixed with the typical centrifugal sound.

FWIW, that sounds a lot like my V3 does. At idle, there is a small whistle with a light "grind/bee" sound. It goes away with any RPMs, but your 1st video sounds almost exactly like mine does at idle.

So either we're both fine or we're both screwed .

Don't you hear this unusual mosquito/bee sound? It sounds like something is rubbing.

I have owned a bunch of Vortech's and install them on customer cars quite often. It sounds normal to me. When the bearings fail the pulley shaft and/or the impeller will get loose and they will grind. They also will not spin smoothly. They will have rough spots as you turn it.

Here's what mine sounded like with bad bearings before my rebuild.
