i have h-beam and low CR forged pistons for the turbo motor i'm building, but it seems to me that 02-04's with the small bump in CR have more trouble.

also tuning and luck. for example. .004 ring end gap per inch of bore is pretty standard gap for 1st and 2nd rings, but if combustion temps stay high long enough .004 isnt enough. if you butt the rings you lose the lands immediately. so look there for most of the ring land losses. any hint of detonation will blow the rods first. so a cool runing motor pushed for a short period of time and cooled off between runs should last a while.

even the best tuning cannot prevent a hot spot in the chamber. and pre-ignition. so luck has its place as to having and sharps in the chamber from casting. i would suspect the swirl brows are the culprit. a raised area in the chamber as a focus for heat.

my $.02

one last little thing.

400rwhp is more than enough for 11.40's in these cars. so rather than focus on more and more power, focus on getting it all down and losing some weight.

:-)

well the zex kit im getting again will activate at full throttle. so before the flaming starts i like the kit cause it will come on right off the line and you cant tell with my exhaust as loud as it is if im using or not...street racing..who knew! so with my stock axles im not going to push the issue of breaking a axle at the track so i will come out of the hole first gear shift then hit it in second and drive. i havent used the juice with my 430 gears slicks and 3400 stall..so i may have to back out before the finish line at the 8th mile track. i may be safe since i upped my rev limiter to 6600 rpms. it will be a test and tune night for my car.

i dont rev the little thing that far!! i try and keep it at 6000..but with a auto it wont shift sometimes before it gets into the limiter and that cost me a race or two so i just set it as high as i could.

Bought my 96GT new in late 96. Ordered it with 3.73's, FRPP cat-back, and a FRPP 9psi centrifugal supercharger as dealer installed items. Powerdyne upgraded the head unit to BD11a specs @ 11psi in 98. Engine had 128K before a rod let loose. think I got my moneys worth.

just wondering , anybody ever trashed a crank with anything under 550 rwhp , I am still collecting parts for my rebuild and the forged crank and 8 bolt flywheel are only things I am waiting to save up for , but its only going to be about 490-530 rwhp with a S trim so I am thinking about putting the stock crank back in since it looks like brand new when I pulled it out

on a 75 shot making 315 to the wheels. split the #8 piston at the 3 ring, destroyed the head, bent the rod, bent the crank, took an 1/8 inch gouge in the cylinder wall. shop yanked the motor out took apart and through it all in the dumpster

99 GT. Was running great for a while. Got it cheap with cracked intake. Started smoking one day and noticed oil was slightly low. Refilled it and looks good. Checked it a few days later and was all still there. Drove it around for 2 weeks and didn't bother to check. Big mistake. Took it out and beat on it pretty good. Then came the tapping. Around 98k on the clock.

I've come to find out it also spun a bearing back under warranty and got a new motor.

Yea, I did it, thanks. He has since hurt his MMR 900 Motor that he put in the car after that video was made. Injectors were at close to 100% duty cycle in the summer, winter came along, car picked up 1.5 psi and well, lets just say two of the pistons didnt make it. The same week, his brother's pullied Lightning blew up with 105k miles, two broken rods.

That damn reman Ford motor in the 02 GT has outlasted them all so far lol!

Never happen to me, but detonation is how I got my block from a kid I worked with in FLA. He was pushing about 10psi when the engine gave up.
