Pros and cons to a 10.5 out back

All of you who have 10.5s or have decided against them, what were/are the reasons you like or hate them. I just recently got some blackchrome FR500s and need two more, so I'm trying to decide on 17x10.5 or 17x9 to match the fronts.

Also what size tire are you running on the 10.5s if you have them? 315/35/17?

Pro: Look good

Con: few 315/35/17 tire choices, anything that will hook will cost good $$

Pro: Looks killer from the rear..

Cons: Cannot rotate tires. Besides Sumitomos, not a good choice for an enexpensive tire.

I would not trade them either..

Look amazing out back. Would not give them up after going to the big tires. Had to remove my quads but I'm thinking that when I lower the car they might have enough clearance when flipped.

Just put 17x10.5 with Sumitomo 315/35/17's on the back and they fit fine. The parking brake bracket barely touched on bumps or tuens so i need to bend it up a bit but the quad shocks have clearance and so do the pipes. Now i may flip the quad shocks just to be on the safe side but all in all pretty easy mod and the look is just killer!!!!

I have the nitto 555 drag radials 315/35/r17 on mine. I dont like the way they look. They just look a little small on the lip of the rim. Im talking about the sidewall. Its a 10.5 rim so it must be right.

I failed to mention I have 18s. I'm running 295/35/18 BFGs out back and they are PERFECT on 10.5" rims. As for the fronts... I put 275/35/18s on the 9" wide rim and they lip out a little far. Should have gone with 265s but oh well. LOTS of grip out front!

I love the looks of them but I like being able to rotate my tires as well. Pretty much the only reason why I haven't gone to 10.5's out back.

I run 10.5's with 315/35r17 in the rear. I have 2 sets of 10.5's. One with sumitumos, and one with drag radials.

Pros: Looks awesome, fills out the wheel wells. Better traction if you could fit a wider DR

Cons: Can't rotate them. Tires are $$$$. I had to use a BFH to bang out the inner fender because they would scrape.

If I had to do it again, I would...HOWEVER mine is not a daily driver. If I was to DD my car, I would stick to 9s all the way around.

I hate these "sorry to thread jack" posts. It still does not make the thread jacking ok by apologizing beforehand. If you have a question then PM him or make a new thread in the wheels/tires section. Or you could just do what we all do and search around evilbay...

alright i've decided to go with the 10.5s, they just look way too good to go with 9s. They'll be wrapped in 315/35zr17 Nitto 555.

Havnt seen many SN95s with FR500 wheels, and havnt seen any with the black chrome ones. Got the tires on the way and will get the wheels with the next pay check.

I'll make sure I post some pics, thanks for the info guys.

SN95 with FR500

The machined lip on the rear rim is killer....I get tons of looks with these rims, the 9" wont have the lip

Dunlop owned by Sumitomo
BFG by Micheline
Firestone by Bridgestone
I forget who Goodyear owns

I liked my 10.5's... hated my sumitomo's

I also disliked my 9" front wheels... they stuck out too far, and rubbed my control arms at full turn

I did not like the 10.5 on the back. I went from 255/40/17 Kumho's all around to 245/40/17 Nitto Invo fronts and 315/35/17 Nitto DR on back. The handling of the car became aweful. It would easily push(understeer) the front end. It was a dramatic difference. I have 18's to go on now but am rethinking after seeing how expensive 18" tires are, 17's are cheap compared to 18's. Which ever I choose I will go to a more balanced setup, probably a 265/285 combo. The cool look from behind is nice but IMO the 315 is too much tire for the rear of a Mustang that can't take advatange of it. This means a heavly modified suspension and large tire up front.

I have a 265/295 combo and I think that's even pushing it.
