Little Joe,

If you want to argue endlessly that moving the sensor around is OK because you don't care what it reads so long as the engine doesn't shut down, then you'll have to argue that one with yourself.

The only point I'm making is if someone wants to really know the water temp as closely as possible, or feed the correct water temp as closely as possible to the EEC, then they need to put it in the right place.

Lots of stuff works even if it isn't the best idea. We all know that.

You guys are getting way too excited about the location of the sender. Remember that the radiator does not reject ALL of the heat, so there isn't a dramatic difference between the temperature of the coolant that enters the engine block and what leaves the heads. Ford put the gauge sender for the 2.3L in the side of the engine block.

Bottom line, put the damn thing anywhere you want, just don't expect it to be dead on if it's not in the thermostat housing and make sure it doesn't trap an air pocket like Yount said.
