I am going to buy a sts for my car and dont know which one to buy here are my options. Hurst Competition Plus short throw or the Hurst Billet short throw is one better then the other or the Billet shifter is more expensive so Before i buy one i wanted to see what you guys think. Thanks

I have the hurst comp short shifter and to tell you the truth, you would better save a little more and buy the steeda or the MGW shifter because the hurst shifter at least in my case it is not worth the money.

I own the Hurst Billet. It rattles. Hindsight being 20/20 I'd buy either the Tri-Ax or Pro 5.0 instead and put a Hurst handle on it.

You can look at the Steeda all you want, but I had one and hated it, especially with a blower on the car. That made shifts even worse. I gave it to my son and he put it on his '05 and liked it. He fell asleep at the wheel and totaled the car. We left it on the wreck. When he got another mustang he also bought an MGW shifter and says it blows away the Steeda Triax.
The thing about the MGW shifter that makes it perform better especially with higher HP is the fact that it has torsion mounts on both ends of the remote mounting beam. It's the only shifter that has this. The torsion mounts work well because with this car unlike other previous stangs the shifter mounts to both the transmission and the vehicle's body rather than just to the transmission. When the drive train twists at all it creates a bind between the shifter and transmission. The torsion mounts allow for some twist without affecting shifts.
Look at all of the other shifters out there...they all have rigidly mounted remote beams and some even are solid billet aluminum like the Triax. Looks great, but does also allow for zero drive train movement or twist. I've probably installed 4 MGW's now and all of the owners absolutely love them. Spend the little bit of extra cash and get the best.

You can make the MGW look completely stock with the metric handle, or get a 3/8'' threaded handle for Hurst style T-handle or pistol grip. They offer a few different shift knobs, but you can use the stocker or whatever the hell you want. Mine looks stock other than a black leather stitched Cobra style knob with the 5 speed pattern. I've got both handles and several different knobs.
Anthony05 explains the technical aspects of it better than I do but as he said, the mgw is by FAR thee best engineered shifter available for s197's, not to mention the most adjustable in height, throw, and angle.
