Ford Racing / B&M Short Shifter

Ford Racing has a short shifter designed by B&M

Sutton has it listed for $180.

Ford Racing 2005-07 Mustang GT Short Throw Shifter

Does anyone have first hand experience with it? Any opinions good or bad?

Couldn't find this on FRPP's site. Why not just get the Hurst?

I have read both good and bad posts about the entry level Hurst shifter. The billet aluminum Hurst looks solid but then the price jumps ~$100. The B&M is about the same price as the entry level Hurst and (from the picture) looks pretty solid. As pictures can be deceiving, I was curious if anyone had first hand knowledge.

If you are looking for a Hurst I'll sell you mine. I hate it. I would look at MGW or Steeda. Those are the two I'm considering replacing my Hurst with.

When I first bought my car I was thinking about getting the Hurst shifter. Since then I have read so many post of people complaining/replacing their Hurst that I've nixed that idea. Thanks for the offer though.

People seem to love the MGW. If it weren't for the fact that it's $295 + shipping I'd go with that. If it's solid, at $180 including shipping the B&M is tempting. Of course if it turns out to be cr*p then I've thrown away $180. Hence the post.

I love the MGW. Well I did until it broke on me this morning. The throw length adjuster snapped off the shifter. So I guss its time to look into getting a different one. So who else make shifters besides b&m, and hurst, and steeda i want to see whats out there before i spend money on a new shifter.

I ended up ordering the Billet aluminum Hurst shifter. It should be arriving tomorrow! I found it for a pretty good price, ~$208 + handling. It looks a lot sturdier than the steel version. This is a link to the thread.

Hurst (3915201) Billet Plus Shifter - FYI

The throw length adjuster has been updated to a more stout piece. You should call MGW and ask for one if you don't have it. I'm sure they will ship you one at no cost.

I had a Steeda Triax, didn't like the noise or the way I couldn't get clean high rpm shifts. I've removed several Hurst shifters and replaced them with the MGW units for people. That B&M unit doesn't have centering springs, so you only get what you pay for. I think the MGW unit is the best shifter available right now. I have no complaints and I can finally speed shift this transmission with it.

Bluelou, not tryin to burst ur bubble, but Hurst beefed up the piece that didn't need any attention at all actually. the stamped steel version they were sellin, the one i had previously, had the stamped-steel arm that runs parallel to the top of the tranny that held up just fine. take a closer look at the base of the flashy chrome handle. see the two bolts at the bottom? that's the piece that will ultimately loosen up and wiggle around no matter how tight u tighten those bolts. i mean i hope for ur sake and other's that Hurst actually solved the problem. cuz my Hurst shifter only lasted me like 10k miles. i have since then gotten an MGW, and love it. i can rip some shifts now, and haven't had any issues. its expensive, no doubt, especially if u decide to go the method i went with a handle for the standard thread and earlier mustang models, but well worth the money. best of luck to ya, and let us know if u have and problems!

I too am looking into different shifters (anything has to be better then the factory rubbery shifter that my car has now lol), and would like to hear peoples feedback on multiple different *Budget* shifters as well.

The Hurst has been installed and so far it feels and looks great. I loaded it up with loctite red. Hopefully that'll keep away the rattles that have been mentioned. If not there is alway J-B Weld. I swapped out the knob with an 8-ball. The Hurst knob felt too small. I have my fingers crossed but I'll let you know if there are any rattles.

I used loctite red when I had the Hurst and it was never an issue after that.
