Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak steps down.
Hands over power to the military.. Good/Bad? discuss..
I think it's a step in a bad direction given the muslim brotherhood has it's sites set on Egypt.. |

Can the military appoint a new president? they are talking about El Bareidi... I just think waiting until the sept elections would have been more of the right thing to do then this.

pushed out could be considered stepping down i guess.
funny how oBUMa and his intel advisors didn't see ANY of this coming, even got it wrong yesterday, but then feel the need to start issuing statements and making their own announcements as if they have any credibilty on the issue now. i'll just mute their announcement and add my own words to something along the lines of "even though we did not see this coming as our intelligence has shifted practice to relying on media reports that are sometimes incorrect, we are glad to see one of our closest allies in the region get the boot. while we hope things work our for the best for us, we do not know what to expect. whatever happens, we look forward to working with the muslim brotherhood, a grassroots community organization, or anyone else to include iranian supported factions that grabs power outside the democracy process. thank you." |

I'd bet $100 that Egypt is like Iran or the military is still in control this time next year.
Only way those idiots over there can install a true democracy is if the U.S. sends 200,000 troops over for 10 years to keep the jihadist or another military dictator from seizing power.

It's a backwards culture where they still believe in cutting off the hands of thieves, stoning people of different religions and killing their women family members to protect their "honor"
Democracy has to be rooted in a basic culture that can sustain it. Egypt has a looooong way to go.

And what happens when those 200,000 troops leave after ten years, leaving thousands of American military dead, thousands more wounded for life, and a trillion+ taxpayer dollars spent? Will the idiots covet and keep the democracy we shoved down their throats or will it just revert to the same old worthless ####hole it has been for a thousand years?

They are not a "moderate" culture like Israel or Turkey. Not even remotely close. A Turkey like democracy with the military insuring the government stay secular (this is how it works in Turkey) is not going to happen in Egypt. You can be positive if you want, but lets not kid ourselves either. The Jihadist are too powerful in Egyptian and Arab society has a whole and they will seize power if given half a chance. EVERY time the arabs have tried democracy or democratic revolt the jihadist grab power. See Gaza strip elections, Iran and Lebanon for examples. (and Lebanon really is a fairly moderate Arab culture) Only reason they didnt or havent yet in Iraq was a protracted fight against us for 10 years.

Isn't it funny that for so many years the US press was so pro-Mubarak; Egypt, with him at the helm was such a great ally. All of a sudden he a despot and the press can't find enough evil in him and everything he and his family did. Now there's a filp-flop if I ever saw one.
