Hey guys,

I bought some Hunsaker Sport Racing Seats for my 90 Convertable Mustang. These seats are excellent quality by the way and look and fell better than a lot of the other high dollar seats I have seen/sat in. The problem I am having is they came with some flat universal mounting brackets. How do I mount these things? I thought I could swap the brackets from my stock seats over to the new ones without a problem but I did that and the front of the seat is way too high and the back is a little too high. Seems like the front of the seat needs to be raised a little and the back needs to be raised about 1" and the back needs to be raised about 4". I basically put the seat on the floor with a brick in the back to raise the back. That feels about right, just needs to be maybe .5 - 1" higher.

Any advice?

Maybe call/email Hunsaker? I sent them a question about an eBay auction and got an email back in about 10 minutes!

Please let me know what you find out as I am considering these for my 92 vert as well...which model did you get?

I just got off the phone with them... They sell custom made brackets for $125 for the pair. Sucks ass but I went ahead and ordered them. I don't think I could fab something up that looked halfway decent, and even if it did I'd be worried about the seats flying out of the car if I was in a wreck or something. He said they are specifically made for my car and will bolt right in and look and feel perfect. Oh well... these damn seats ended up costing me almost $500 after shipping and brackets.... I got the Synkro seats. These things look bad ass. They are way more comfortable than the Sparco's and Corbeaus that I have sat in and seem like they are built very well. I'll take some before and after pics when they are installed.

I have a 89' GT vert and I just bought a set from them. Excellent seats. What I did was the following:

removed old seat brackets from stock seats (both manual)
reinstalled just the stock seat bracket back into car
took 2 pieces of flat stock and welded one across the front parts of the tracks and one across the back part of the tracks. This would insure squareness and the correct dimentions for reinstalling.
Then, I took some U-shaped stock cut it the same width as the seat, measure and drilled holes the same distance apart as the Hunsaker seat mounting holes.
Then I tested fitted the U-stock to make sure it would bolt right up.
Then I welded the U-stock to the stock rails.
This worked perfect for me. I do not think they sit up high at all. I bought the Rally version which I believe is the shortest of their racing seats. This enabled me to used the stock mounting brackets and put them at stock height.
I originally wanted to just drill holes in the stock sliders, but the way they are spaced, you could not get a bolt to fit.
Now my seats have the same functionallity as the stock seats had, but a much better look. I admitt I had about 20 hours in to these trying everything I could imagine. I saw a vert. a few days ago with racing seats (unknown brand) and I swore the tops were higher than the top of the windsheild. Very nasty looking!!! So I was worried that these would turn out that way too, but it did not.

I hope this helps. If you still do not want to use your stock sliders then I would maybe suggest the following:
mount some flat stock across the bottom of the Hunsaker seats, the measure from the floor to the seats front and back (when you have it on the blocks at the height you like). I would then cut some square stock to the desired height. Then mount some flat stock on the bottom of the square tubing and drill holes for where the stock mounting bolts go. As long as you have a Welder the possibilities are endless.

I'm not much of a writer, so I apologize if I lost or confused you.

I hope this will help!!!

That seems like quite a bit of work... I'm sick to my stomach about dumping $125 on brackets but I think it would take me forever to try and make some and I don't think they would be as safe. Thanks for the input... please keep the info coming... I have until tommorow to cancel the order.

I'm not positive, but I think you have the same height issues with other aftermarket seats (like Corbeau, and others), and they sell Mustang specific brackets for about $150 too, so you are still saving quite a bit as long as they are quality seats. I was looking at the Corbeau CR1 + brackets + shipping = $950, so if you are in for under $500 total that is pretty decent.

Do you think the seat back is very strong (at least as strong as the stock seats)? I wouldn't want a flimsy seat at the track.

Is there a hole in the seat for the crotch strap of the 5pt harness?

Oh, and how noticable is the "Hunsaker" stitching, wonder if they can leave that off, or use black thread...I'm not a fan of logos/stickers in my car.

Thanks! Bob

The stitching is white and it's noticible but it doesn't look bad at all. That is one thing I was concearned with as well but it is very tastefully done and I didn't mind it especially after seeing the seat in person. The seats have steel frames and they seem extremely sturdy. The back is very firm and the seat reclines but there doesn't seem to be any flex at all. There are small cutouts for the 5 point harness... one between the legs and one on each side of your legs. It's kind of funny because I was looking these seats over very closely and didn't even notice the cutouts until I had them upside down messing with the brackets. The sticking is done very well. A lot of the cheaper racing seats I have seen end up coming un-stitched at the bottom where you sit. These seats have som thick round "elastic" that the seams are stitched too. You can tell that they are gonna hold up well. The vinyl wear patches are also very high quality and look like leather. Also, the seats hug you, but they aren't as narrow as some of the others I have seen. All in all, I can't wait to get them bolted in! They said it will take 1.5-2 weeks for me to get my brackets though :crying: I am going to try and get some pictures of one of the seats sitting in the car in a little bit.
