How come I can not find performance main bearings for my 1972 351w, everything shows 1977 and up. Federal mogul 130m 1977 and up, clevite ms1432 1977 and up. What is the difference between the bearings for 1976 and down, and 1977 an up. Will they work in my 1972 block? Also I have a scat stroker crank and 4.030 bore for 408 ci. I have the 2.100 chevrolet rod journals. What kind of clearance should I have on the Main bearings, and especially the rod bearings. Any help will be appreciated.

Mains will be the same, Ide run a fedral mogul bearing, 3/4 oil grove. For a 351W thats going to see some RPM, I would also restrict the flow to the heads, run a .0035" main clearance and a high volume oil pump.

I would contact http://www.highflowdynamics.com/ and see if Paul would do a 351W pump for you, or go Titan if your going to spin it to any RPM.

For rod clearance, with the 2.100 chevy journals, you wont have a problem if you run a .0025" clearance.

main diff

the difference between the early style and new style is just where the alignment notch is , the early style blocks have one notch while in the later block they ahve the 2 notchs so you can run either late style or early style bearings on the late model block , but you have to have early style bearings for your 72 other wise the notch on the block wont line up with the nipple on the bearing and well ya it wont work, and yes there is performance bearing for the early block i personally like the celevite 77`s never have had a problem with them its what is going into my 408 right now too in my 69 block , k the part number for the clevite 77 for th early blocks are MS-981P
this is for std size hope this helps you out :)

I cut the notches in the block and cap so either bearing insert can be used..

If he plans on spinning that thing much over 7000, he is going to need a lot more than a Titan pump.........like another block.

Now I don't know what to do! I need .001 oversize bearings for the main bearings on my 72 block. What some companys call x bearings. But they only show them for the 1977 and up blocks. Crap. Any help appreciated.
