need some tips about buying a car and paying with a wire transfer

i am looking into buying a car via a wire transfer and having the car shipped .. i have never done this before and i am a liitle worried about sending a stranger $5,000+ have any of you guys done this before?? what steps did you take to protect you money .......the seller seems straight up but i would like to protect my cash

Are you buying sight unseen? Do you even halfway know the seller? Maybe see if someone here closer to the deal will go check it out for you.

I wouldn't do it. My brother got burned for 5 grand buying a car for his daughter sight unseen. They found the car on craigslist. The seller said it was on Ebay and sent them a link to the auction but offered to end it early for them. My brother wired them the money against my advice and never heard from the seller again. Turns out the car was never on ebay, the link was actually to a website that the seller had created to look like ebay. The cops said it was an elaborate scam and many people have been the victim of the same seller.

i have not seen the car in person and i do not know the seller , he is a member of this site and has good feedback

For real you don't want to be sending that kind of money like that, theres not a thing you can do if that guy takes your money and goes to Vegas or whatever, 80% of fraud cases go unsolved because its so hard to track people down.

Maybe send a small deposit to hold the car and go pick it up in person.

this is not an eBay auction ... it is a car listed on this site...the seller seems OK but you cant help to be a little nervous and buying a car unseen and sending that kind of coin to a stranger

Not saying it's not legit, but there's far more bad than good people in this world. Someone's always trying to hustle a free dollar off of some unsuspecting or naive fella.

I've been ripped off over cars by lifelong best friends, immediate family members, and more. Who or what is to say that won't be the case with someone completely unknown?

Buyer beware...sounds like you're not heeding of the advice posted already.
I'd NEVER buy a car sight unseen, and I damn sure would never send any individual money, especially via wire transfer.

But, in the end it is up to you...hopefully you come out on the good end of things.

I just looked at the link. The paint looks like #### on that car. The fender is all orange peel, as is the quarter. You could see the swirl marks all over the car from them trying to buff it out. That car is a lot rougher than you are led to believe by the pictures

The guy has over 650 feedbacks on eBay, nearly 100% positive. The car does not have a different state license plate, and looks legit to me.


That is most definitely a Florida plate. Now, would I wire someone I didn't know $5k? Probably not, just fly down, or find a buddy and drive down.

That whole car has been painted....and probably by Maaco. Look at the door jambs, look at the fenders, the tops of the quarters. The pictures of the panels behind the front wheels look like they were painted with a spray can.

If this guy wants a "50 footer", and pay 5 grand for it, tell him to go buy it. I strongly suggest he goes and looks at this car in person. I do this for a living...trust me I know what I'm talking about.

Find some good local FL Corralers who would be willing to go and check out the car for you in person - they can then give you a legit overall report about the vehicle (good or bad) and then you can decide from there what you want to do.. There's lots of folks who are willing to assist w/ such a task - even if you want to throw someone local to that car like $30-$50 for their inspection/time - it's better than wiring $5k and being burned.

There have been instances where some "good" Corralers have ripped off folks - even what used to be "good" shops - don't know why the sudden turn in becoming a thief for some of those guys - but what you are doing by asking around is MUCH better than just sending the Seller cash via a wire.

Whatever you do - do NOT do a Western Union wire... There have been many instances in which folks have been ripped off for big cash via WU wires... in fact, there was a thread on here a while back of someone who wired like $3k or something for a supercharger to someone down south... someone picked up the wire - and the buyer never received their purchase, nor could the pick up person be verified or tracked down. I thought the Buyer also said WU was of no help at all either, even though they had a WU wire #, etc.

Be very careful completing state to state, or state to country "sight unseen" transactions.

I was simply judging the situation based on the terms of the sale, not conditions of the vehicle. And, of course I can see "it." Oh, and I'm not in "the business" anymore. At least not at this juncture.
