Idle Air Control Valve – NAPA or OEM?

Seems I need a new IAC, so being the cheap bastard I am I’m looking for a deal somewhere. Is the NAPA or Autozone (Wells) brand any good or do I go OEM Ford? I know its only a difference of ~$20, but every penny counts.

I vote for Ford myself.....

I just removed the original sprayed a lot (and when I say a lot, I really mean it) of cleaner (I'm thinking throttle body cleaner, but it could have been carb cleaner), then let it dry then put it back in. I had the idle problem before cleaning it out but not after. I also look to spend as little money as possible when I don't have to. FWIW I've heard that only the FORD edition is worth it (same goes for 02 sensors) if cleaning the original doesn't work.

Cleaning my original worked, and that was many thousands of miles ago and I haven't had an IAC problem since.

I cleaned mine as well and the car now runs fine. Had a VERY high idle, but no stalling. Took me a little while to find that the IAC was the issue. Used few cans of carb cleaner looking for vacuum leaks and found one. Also thought my chip may be the issue, etc.

I’ll probably pick up a real Ford one from FPN and be done with it.

I was pulling my hair out for a few days. Car has a Roush roots blower and lots of other things so I wasn’t sure where to look next. When you replumb nearly everything and have to relocate every wire and connector, you learn to appreciate the engineering that goes into factory installs. When everything is custom, even the simple problems can turn into nightmares.

I bought the Wells unit from Autozone against my better judgement, and it has worked flawlessly for about 3 years.

I bought one from Pep Boys. It was in a Borg Warner box but the plastic body had the Ford Oval cast in it.
