Hidden Antenna Module

California Mustang is selling an antenna module that can replace the mast. It's about $30. Has anybody got one of these things, and do they work?

not much info, but I bet this is it:

http://www.visteon.com/technology/au..._antenna.shtml

looks like you have to mount it in a window...

$30, worth a shot I guess.

You mean this thing:

Looks like a good idea. Get it and report back how it works so I don't have to waste my own $30.

If that provides just as strong of a signal as the antenna, I would definately buy that.

Report back with your findings!!!

That module would be nicely complemented with this antenna delete plate:

I think I'll buy the thing from Cal-Mustang. I had in mind using an antenna delete plate. Pictures of the new Mach 1 seem to show it antenna-less.

I want to put an automatic one on my cobra. I have to take my mast on and off every time I drive it to put the cover on. Anyone install an electric antenna in the stock location?

If you are going to delete/move the antenna only use the delete plate until you can afford the body work to cover it properly. Yes the car would look better w/o the antenna, but do it right. I don't know pricing on body work but it couldn't be more than 200 bucks to fill the hole and paint. Obviously the car cover issue can be resolved by the electric antenna. I think JC Whitney has some. For what it's worth I don't think that would be too cheesy, just don't get a super tall antenna.

Just my .02 guys.

You could just mark your car cover in the position of your antenna. Then take it to an upholstry shop and have a grommet installed. Shouldn't be more than $10.00 if they charge you at all.

that's a good idea, or simply unscrew your antenna each time you put on your car cover, just a thought.

Did anybody actually use that antenna delete plate?
What is involved in installation?

I'll let you know in a week or two. I just ordered one today, along with that antenna delete plate. California Mustang says you can mount it anywhere in the car. I'll try to stick it under the fender below where the stock antenna mounts.

When I get a few extra bucks, I'll visit my friendly body shop guys and ask them to fill in the hole and paint both my fenders.

I did the hidden antenna/cobra R delete plate last weekend. The antenna has to hook up to a +12v power source, which I did (checked it w/my volt meter). I put it in the fender directly below where the old mast was. Results? I get 0 reception. I don't even kind-of get any station at all, zip zero nadda. Just static across the AM and FM bands... Maybe my unit was defective, whatever, I'm gonna call them next week and find out how something advertised as being able to receive all your favorite station doesn't receive jack.

The plus side? Car looks really good from the front.

Take a guess at what material is an EXCELLENT shield for radio signals...metal. And your fender...metal. If you put your receiver in a location that isn't heavily shielded (behind glass, for instance), you will pick up a signal (assuming it's not broken). Like Mikey...try it, you'll like it.

I did think about that, but they also said you could "mount it anywhere". Kinda be a shame to mount a "hidden antenna" in plain sight.

I bought a plastic grommet that snaps together through a small hole you cut for the antenna. It works really good. I'll look for the info of where I bought it and post it later.

So did anyone have any luck with the CA Mustang antenna module? I would like to get rid of my antenna, but if this thing doesn't work I would like to know.

Cal Mustangs sell the same HAM as the link below.
http://www.roddoors.com/sohidant.html

I have one, and it works great . I mount mine on top of the windshield behind the rear view mirror. Took me 5 mins to installed. The hardest part was removing the head unit.

Please note you cannot mount it under metal. It does not work.

If that works Id be interested. Do you have any pics of it installed? I don't use my radio at all. That's why I have Kazaa Lite and a CD burner. But I hate having that big antenna on the car.

I have often wondered if it's possible to just use the antenna module that's stock on 95+ Crown Vics. It's mounted on the metal panel between the rear speakers in the trunk. Those cars have good reception, but there is a separate pattern in the glass near the top.

I dont have any pics. I just stick the HAM behind the rear view mirror, run the line across the top of windshield trim panel, down the passenger side A pillar, under the glove box to the back of the head unit and connect the power line to a good 12 volt source.

If you stand outside in front of the car, you cant even see the HAM cause the the top of the windshield have factory tint.

IMHO, the FM station works great. AM station is ok.

Where did you run your 1/4's? I'd like to take my 5.4 out and see what it will do N/A before I try to stuff a blower in there. A lot of people around here go to keystone.

I just looked at the crown vic radio and rear defrost schematics, it looks entirely possible to use it. The antenna module connects to the defroster grid and the defrost power lead goes to the antennal module, the module isolates the two systems and uses the grid as an antenna. I think I'm going to try to hook one up, I have dozens of those modules lying around at work. Worst thing could happen is I fry the factory head unit.
