If you get control arms for the rear take off the quad shocks and the dogbone on the differential. You can look into a rear seat delete unless you have more than two passengers.

Although not weight reduction, you could move the battery to the trunk. That puts more weight over the rear tires while taking some off the nose. I would look into coil overs too.

yes thats the dogbone...

and if you dont have them already, LT's and on o/r mid will save some weight over iron logs and stock catted H, not to mention gain a good bit of power.

it will be very hard to get down to 3000 without resorting to a tubular front end.

corbeau Forza's weigh only like 19lbs... ditch your stock front seats in favor of those or something similar and you're down an instant 100lbs.

the seats plus the brackets (with power driver seat) and the power seat crud weigh an astonishing amount. The pump and all the crud under the driver seat (connected to the bracket) weighs like 35lbs all by itself.

Pull the rear seat, but don't install a seat delete as they weigh around 20-25lbs I believe...

When you go to the track pull the spare tire and jack.

My 98 weighs 3145 w/o driver with:

Mach 460
All A/C and heating stuff
Power locks/windows
Spoiler
Almost empty on gas
No spare tire or jack
With passenger side leather seat
No ABS or cruise control
Off-road X-pipe, stock exhaust manifolds

Weight additions:
Tremec TKO w/ Lakewood scattershield (~25 lbs heavier than stock)
Full length subframe connectors (~30 lbs heavier than stock)
SVO intake (~15 lbs. heavier than stock)
Battle Boxes (~10 lbs heavier)

Weight Reduction:
Removed front swaybar (~20 lbs lighter)
Removed dogbone (~8 lbs)
Removed rear seat with custom delete kit (~30 lbs lighter)
HO fibertrends cowl hood (~20-25 lbs lighter than stock)
Aluminum driveshaft (~7 lbs. lighter than stock)
Prostar Bigs and Littles (~70 lbs. lighter than stock 275-40-17's on all 4's on stock GT wheels)
Aluminum LCA's (~8 lbs. lighter)
Sealed Lead Acid Battery (like Dynabatt)- (~25 lbs. lighter)

Bro, in order to hit 3000 lbs, you'll need to ditch A/C, spoiler, passenger seat, foglights, carpet, door trim, Mach 460 junk, and airbags. Plus my weight reduction and not do my "weight additions".

A/C compressor and lines = 36lbs
Both leather front seats = 83 lbs
Stock 4 cat h-pipe = 48 lbs
Back seat assy = 53 lbs

My own custom back seat delete = 12 lbs. Pics on me web site. Saved 31 lbs

Rookie MOMO coarse racing seats 11 lbs each. Saved 72 lbs

AC delete bracket 5 lbs. Saved 31 lbs

Off road h-pipe is 22 lbs. saved 26 lbs

Total I pulled 160 lbs from my Stang from these four mods...DA Snake Boy!!!

I just read this I will try it well maybe not the AC delete I do Live in Florida.

Rip out hood insulation? Even seen guys pull off bumpers and lose the foam-looking impact stuff. They claimed it was like 20-30lbs.??

you'd have to pull the actual bumper supports to lose even close to 20-30 lbs

that foam weighs like nothing

Agreed. In fact in the Mathis book it recommends that if you remove your bumper that you should fill any voids with expanding foam because it maintains the shape but weighs very little.

If you have the cash you can go to LT's and O/R midpipe. That would be good. Lightweight racing seats are a good savings over the stock leather. Do a rear seat delete and just use some matching carpet on the lower piece to make it look right. I'm not sure how much the LT's save versus the stock manifolds but you could be in the neighborhood of 150# total with the above.

It depends on the options. A stripped GT can weigh 3200 while a fully loaded GT with the mach1000 system could be closer to 3400.

id rather keep my interior, seats, ac, ps and other stuff and just do another mod or 2... why srip down a car for 200lbs and loose the nice comfort and look of it... even if you do gain .2 of a sec in the 1/4 mile (.1 sec = to ruffly 100lbs) most people could gain more by a set of slicks and learning to drive better... if its a race car then gut it but if its a dd or a weekend car i wouldnt bother...
