I don’t know the answer to your question but I do know this, you will defiantly notice a difference, a kick in the ass for sure, when I went from 2.73 to 3.73 I could not believe the improvement, the only thing I would have done different was going with 4.10 instead of the 3.73

you have to add traction too, dragradials and 410,s or 373 ,you can expect to drop around 1 second off

How do you have 3.08's on a stock 5-speed? I thought only Auto's came with the 3.08 gear and the 5-speeds came with 2.73's.

My 88 lx coupe has 3.27's in it from the factory and a friend of mine has a 92 lx coupe 5.0 5 speed with 3.08's.

I own a 93 LX 5.0 5 speed ex Florida Highway Patrol car that came with 3.08s. I
changed to 3.73s and rebuilt the posi traction unit just last week. My only regret is that I didn't do this sooner. This is the biggest difference I've noticed with a single mod. The acceleration is just insane now.

2.73s were the standard gear for all V8 8.8" Mustangs 86-95 or so.

3.08s were optional for T-5s.

3.27s were optional for AODs.

If you use stock size street tires (225/60R15), you will have absolutely NO traction in the first couple gears if you really hammer it.

Murphy is on the money with the tire thing. My car is quickly digesting my BFG Sports with the 3.73s. I guess this is a good excuse for bigger better tires.

I went from 2.73's to 3.73's, 31 spline axles, cobra FRP posi, net: absolutely no traction unless I left the line at idle. Great swap but gears only won't get it. Plan on upper and lower control arms and sticky tires when you do your budget, get all that done then hang on tight because you are ready for flight.

I dropped 0.4 after going from the stock 3:08's to 3:73's. That was one of the first mods I did when motor was still basically stock.

I did the swap to 3.73. I see why this is usually a first on the things to do list. Very nice!

I picked up .4 going to 3.73's on street tires.....I could definatly gain more if i could hook up. I am still cutting 2.2 60's so i could see with slicks and some practice you could get close to 1 second.

ttt.............On my particular application I was thinking about 3-4 tenths too, but my question would be as of right now I'm cutting consistent mid-high 1.80 60ft times.

I'm pretty sure I would gain 1 tenth or so in 60ft by going with the 3.73's, does that sound about right?.

And also would that gain of 3-4 tenths be included with the anticipated 1 tenth drop in 60ft times, or would I gain even more than the 3-4 tenths overall?

Peace

James

i went from 3.08's to 3.73's and gained 4 tenths , the car didnt 60ft any differently ..... but thats because it just worked good wiuth the 3.08's .

i think my best 60ft with 3.08's was a 1.80 and with 3.73's was a 1.78 or so .

Right now I'm on M/T et street radials and on an excellent track I can launch at 5,500 and it won't spin (although I haven't tried launching off of the limiter yet), and on a bad track I have to lower it to between 3500-4500.

My question is, on your application did you use your same launch rpm's when you went to 3.73's or did you have to drastically lower your launch rpm?, and also what tires were you using when you had 3.08's and 3.73's?.
