Which to get: TKO 500 or TKO 600?

I plan on doing a 5 speed swap and I need your help deciding on what tranny to get.

~I am making 405 HP/385 TQ at the flywheel. I have 3.73's in the rear.
~The TKO 500 has a 1st gear ratio of 3.27, and a 5th gear ratio of .68
~The TKO 600 has a 1st gear ratio of 2.87, and a 5th gear ratio of .64

Here's my dilemna: Will there be too much gear multiplication between my 3.73 and the 3.27 1st gear ratio of the TKO 500? Would I be better off spending the little extra money for the TKO 600 for the 2.87 1st gear, the little bit better overdrive ratio, and the added strength?

I'm afraid with the power I'm making, that the 3.27 ratio of the TKO 500 would be totally useless, so that my tires would just spin. Or do you think this isn't worth worrying about? Then again, if my tires didn't spin, the car would accel a little better in 1st.

So what do you think Corral--the TKO 500 or the TKO 600, and what's your reasoning? Thanks,

You do not want a 2:87 first gear. Trust me! With 3:73 gears out back you will bog off the line with any tire on there. I run a 4:56 gear with the a tko w/3:27 1st on a 28 inch slick. I went 1.55 60ft times with 26 inch slick on it also.

Thanks for the reply. So you think I should go with the TKO 500 with its 3.27 1st gear?

What does everybody else think?

I have a 600 with 3.27 rear and an aluminum flywheel, and its not that bad. Just have to launch higher. I wanted the closer gear ratios. I can't wait to get gears though. if you really want the 500, it is available with the 26 spline input shaft making the only difference between the 2 trannys the gear ratios. the price for the upraded 500 is the same as for the 600 at places like ddperformance.com

With a 3.27 wouldn't you have to launch at a lower rpm because of all the multiplication? Otherwise you'd just be blowing the tires off, wouldn't you?
