Question A9P to a A9L oxygen sensor harness question

Have a A9P in my car right not but I am about to put an A9L in its place. I have seen and been told that the o2 harnesses are different. How do I convert it to a T5 5 speed harness instead of the AOD harness? Not sure how to repin this thing and see no need in buying another one if I can just re pin mine thats in my car.

I ran into this in my '87 with a T-5 and A9L and an automatic 02 harness a friend gave me. Before I knew any better I plugged in the harness without modifying it and within a second of start-up it burned out the common sensor ground circuit in the computer.

Fortunately I was able to solder the circuit board in the computer and after switching 2 of the wires in the 8-pin connector of the 02 harness, it's been running great for over a year. If I recall, I compared the wire colors and positions on the connector of my harness to the wiring diagram in the back of my Haynes manual, found 2 discrepancies in wire locations in the connector, and moved those wires to match the locations in the manual.

That would mean of course the wiring diagram in the Haynes manual is specific to a 5-speed harness, and I don't remember there being a second diagram for an automatic harness. Doesn't make complete sense on an academic level, but it worked for me.

Never heard of this one. My car came with a A9L 5-speed car. I put an AOD in it and a A9P computer and never had an issue. I know it is reverse on what you are doing but I never heard any issue changing computers.

I read a bunch of posts on this when I was trying to figure it out and I think you're safe to use an 02 harness out of a manual car with an A9P/AOD but you can't use a harness for an automatic car with an A9L/T-5.

I would not have believed the stuff I was reading about this issue had I not experienced it firsthand. Anyway bottom line is you can switch some of the pinouts on the connector and make it work.
