Foxbody Console Delete....

Hey guys im looking for some advice on what i should do with this thing. I took the console out and i dont plan on putting it back in. I like the looks of it without it, reminds me of real muscle cars, and with bein carbed it kinda fits the bill anyways.

Ive been working on this cover/boot and i have the fitment done, now i just need to either paint or polish it. Im thinking paint the base to match the carpet OR paint it black to go with the two-tone. I couldnt use the typical boot with the chromed ring fastened to the floor because the hole in my carpet was cut rather large around the shifter area. Let me know your opinions please.

The knob sits up high in the pics but it be further down by the time its finished

Looks good. Why not just get some nice stainless steel hardware and leave it bare?

My advice...get another grey console, and kick yourself for cutting up your original one. Nobody has ever got the console delete to look right in fox cars. It just looks so awkward, and out of place. Very incomplete/hacked up...not clean looking at all.

it looks like this for now.

Eventually i will get paint that matches the grey in the car and get another console and HACK it up better than what i did this one. All i had was a pair of tin snips when i cut it

I just pulled the trans/shifter out of my 81 with no console. The boot had a folded rubber bottom and a leather top. Kind of a mix between the two styles.

The "folded rubber" was under this little plastic piece, but I think it was broken, because it just came off.

imho it looks unfinished. need to fiberglass the area you cut on the dash, fix the two holes in the carpet where it was bolted to the tunnel, and get a boot for your ebrake. i like the concept though...had thought of doing it myself but decided i wanted the console back in.

easiest/nicest solution is get a new carpet to get rid of all the holes and cut it in tighter so you can use a smaller boot.

I agree on the concept being cool, but I have yet to see it properly executed.

i agree 100% on the carpet idea. But its just not in the budget since im currently building my engine. It will eventually look right it just takes time (and money)

i mean it looks fine just a little unfinished to me as i stated...but we all know things get built in stages (at least those of us on budgets )...and all that matters is its done up to the standard you want....good luck and post some pics when its done b/c no one ever follows up lol..

I need to see a better picture or different angle. From what I see, it looks the best out of all the ones on here...but it still looks incomplete/off.

Maybe the aero fox was always meant to have a center console.

Ya a pic from the passenger side would be nice , it does look nice ,although i would have no use for the space where the radio goes thats kinda why i went the way i did. Also, is that a 99-04 e-brake cover???

It would look a bit better without the carpet patch over the shifter. Plus the ebrake & shifter boots look very incomplete. I guess it's ok for a drag car though.

im just going to have to live with this until im more motivated to work on it....

edit: i may just mold that little faceplate into the whole thing since the center piece is so easy to remove to get to the controls.

I've always considered doing this but i'd need to delete my power mirrors for a manual set up. I dont have a stereo in my car as it is.

Those console delete or shifter bezel whatever you would call them are hard to find. The first one I ever saw was in my police package '86 coupe. I have bought everyone I can find since then, which has only been two. I had one in my '85 coupe for a while when I had the T5 in the car. They don't fix the incomplete '87-'93 dash problem.

Something like this could be done fairly easily if you were good with fiberglass and making molds for fiberglass parts.

I agree with a few above, it just doesn't look right with out the console. Your plate looks pretty good, but not my thing. A+ for thinking outside the box though.

Here is the link to the full article. 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra - 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords Magazine

There doesnt seem to be much explanation of the console delete.

Yeah, I think an aero fox without a center console was just never meant to be.
