Help! Lost All Keys From 2001 Stang

Hey guys a friend of mine lost all keys to his 2001 mustang. Is their a way to over ride the anti-theft? Does the car have to go to a dealer? He might have to tow it if we can't get the car to start.

You can go to your local Ford dealership and tell them the VIN number/provide proof of ownership, they can make new keys for you.

Thanks Red. I wish that would work instead of having to take the car over there. I guess my bud would have to call our local dealership and find out if they can get a key programmed with just the title of the car.

The car has to be there. They have a fancy little programmer that plugs into the car and programs the car and keys to each other. No other way.

Oh, and make sure he buys at least two new keys.

HAHAHA f'n spammers.

The fancy lil tool the dealer uses is the Ford IDS, usually on a Powerbook.

"Our Country! In her intercourse with foreign nations, may she always be in the right, but our country right or wrong."

Actually a Ford dealer wouldn't have been able to get you the code to cut the key. Ford only keeps the key codes for 10 model years, so we can only go back to 2006 model cars currently. We would have to call a lock smith on a 2001 to have them decode a cylinder and cut us two keys so we can program it. There is a data base for older cars, but a dealer can't access it it's a subscription service to locksmiths at a fee. If you got it done for $160 they really did you a favor, a dealer would have charged $30 per key and at least another $80 to program, plus you would have to have the car towed to the dealership at an additional charge $80 to $300 depending on where you're at.

It's a dog eat dog world and I'm wearing milk bone underware.
