how to raise the rear

i am looking to raise the rear of the car up on my 66 coupe. it is a little to low for my taste. what is the best way to do this? don't want air shocks so please don't say that. the rear leafs in there now are stock replacement but is there a different one to get to raise it back up? looking for an 1" or 2" at the most.

Garage
you can find lift shackles at some auto parts stores, or in the jc whitney catalog.

Lifting the rear

Most medium to larger size towns have Spring or Suspension shop. Take your car by there and discuss what you're wanting to do. They can usually either rearch your springs, or add an additional 'helper' spring that will lift the rear.

Their are usually higher lift springs for sale on ebay. Or try one of the Mustang restoration stores.

i have a 68 coupe with an 8 inch rear. i used stock height shackles with 4.5 leaf springs and monroe load-leveler shocks, they are like a coilover shock with the spring right on the shock. they are originally designed for trucks towing stuff but they use them on muscle cars for stance and they can be ordered anywhere. not great for dragging, but it gives the car a nice stance.

How could stock replacement springs be too low? Did you use any lowering blocks? Are your tires taller than stock?
You could see about a suspension shop and see if they can be re-arc'd but if they are stock and already are too low it might be that you got really whimpy springs... perhaps get higher quality ones from a reputable place?

When I bought mine I got them from a stupid place, but I got the highest rating possible. I was a little scared about getting the lowering type leafs, so I got the mid-eye and planned to use lowering blocks. I ride about 1" too tall. One day I'll get around to using lowering blocks.

If you don't mind having shackles showing from behind you could get ones to raise your car, personally I think they look hideous.

+1

Get a set of good quality springs. Don't try to rig it.

I used stock springs and it raised it great enough to clear 28" tires
