I thought it would be done by April!! LOL LOL LOL.....yeah its really not funny anymore! I always start a project with small intentions to just fix this...then I fix that....then this need attention....and then its a HUGE project in no time.
Can you believe this started out as just smoothing the engine bay....and flat blackin the hood and cowl panel.....GEEZ WHAT HAPPENED!! lol More pictures tomorrow night I hope. I bonged the left quarter off...and I ended up fixing the one UPS messed up in shipping...the buckle came right out....and I put $400 back towards the project because thats what it was insured for!! CHA CHING!!!

Progress is looking great! I really like that you smoothed out the top of the core support. I have seen that done before and it looks just excellent. But, I also think it would have been even better had you boxed the frame rails. I'd still be content with it as is, nonetheless. You've done a lot of work thus far, so you have to be commended on that.

Sorry guys...been busy getting UPS to get there AZZ in gear and give me a refund for the damaged quarter, and now I am fighting Jay n Sons Mustangs Inc and DHL to get there slow asses in gear and get the cowl panel HERE!! Its been two weeks now....I know the weather is bad, but MY GOD they are in NY and I am in Ohio!! Anyhow....I just think its funny how much this car keeps testing me. But as you can see, I am not stoping short of making a BADAZZ ride!!! Enjoy these....I wish I would have started a different car from the beginning, but I had no idea it was this bad till it was to late to turn back. So let this be a lesson to others....buy the nicest, cleanest, rust free car you can in the beginning!!
Half an outer wheelhouse was cut off the new quarter I got from Georgia and rewelded on my car! Grinding the rolled weld seam of the inner and outer wheelhouse is NOT FUN!! ![]() Inner view ![]() Inner structure view after duraglassing the welds (just to be safe) ![]() After I shot PPG DP90LF epoxy primer (was going to use dp40lf, but black just looked better) and POR15 doesnt stick to well to nice clean metal! ![]() The new quarter after being skinned out (PITA) and it is in the process of getting the egdes and so on sandbalsted and ready for epoxy primer ![]() Basically....its been a century so far, but being young and poor....this caliber of a project is taking longer, and because I am probably to picky...and a little inexperienced at knowing what I can get away with. But I would rather be safe than sorry. And having to borrow tools, shops, welders, materials, and so on is getting old too!!!

Yep I need to cut the lips after the quarter is in place. The other side was cut when the car was running...so I have the other side to go off of.

Thanks. Well I am just going to use this as my excuse for being slow. My girlfriend said I cant ask her to marry me until the cars done, but I am thinking in my head "Marriage???....why ruin a good thing with marriage! LOL."
Okay my excuse sucks....I am at home typing this crap instead of working on the dang thing at work....STUPID RAIN....I need to sandblast some more...and I cant get the quarter turned the right way in the blast cabinet, so I have to do it outside. And thats the next step...getting the quarter on, filled, smoothed, primed...and done till further blocking and priming. The funny thing is look back at my posts in April 2007...I thought the metal work was close to being done back then.....WOW...I AM SLOW...and 79's are hard to get sheetmetal for! Because the cowl just HAS to be different than a 87-93, which are PLENTIFUL around here.

It looks great! I can't believe how much work went into a car that looked pretty solid starting out. Don't sweat it about being slow, what you have done so far I could have done in probably 3-4 years, LOL.

Keep it up. Your doing one hell of a job. Going above and beyond what anybody would ever think about doing. You just better spray the undercarriage just like the top of the car before your done.

Lol.. Thanks human-clone....yeah I will blacken it out for now. I wish I had a rotisserie, but I dont have the money for the mini tubs and full blown coilover baseline rear suspension now anyhow. So for now I will blacken it out the best I can....and when I mini tub the rear I will go back and finish up to the firewall and do the bottom of the car nicely!

Don't fear the loss of motivation, it's kind of natural I think. I have noticed that usually when you gather some of that lost motivation at some point, you gain even more convulsion to build your project. At least we can hope so.

PICS!. Is the car still in Galion? or home. Get your ass working, the track is going to be open before you know.
For those that don't know, this car WAS pretty solid, Brente is just to damn picky. Way too picky for a drag car. But he is doing it right and isn't afraid to try and fix it the proper way. Not too shabby for a 20 year old kid and his first project car. I gotta give the kid credit. |
