targa topping an SN95

custom body work question...

Can I safely remove the center section of roof from the A-pillar back to the B-pillar without severely weakening the car from a strength and stiffness perspective?

Would I be better off removing the center section interior to the side supports? Just looking for some ideas on a long term project for my car!

Thanks for any input...

Rich

get some fatass subframes and cut away. hell 'verts dont even have roofs, so you should be fine custom building a targa top without much trouble

personally i think this could better be done using a fox body with t-tops. Add sub frame connectors, cut out the t-bar, and then the hardest part would be making the top.

Ive been looking to targa top my 00 for some time now. I've just been trying to come up with a way to fabricate fasteners and the seals for the top to snap on.

Any info you find, please share!

icer98v6 and reppd...

I have all the means to develop and fabricate a fastening system if you are interested. I'm really not to that stage yet but if you're interested let me know.

The preliminary thinking I've done is a leveraged bar bar lock in the rear and a springloaded pivot clasp similar to vert tie-downs. I still need to do some analysis on the strength and retention strength but I think it would work well.

I know it's been awhile since this thread was started, but does anyone have any more ideas how to targa-top a mustang, or know who makes a kit/installs it?

I don't think kits like that have been produced in years.
