Full bolt ons-now what??

New to the forums really and more or less just finished up this car. It fun to drive as it sits now and seems to make great power. It outruns plenty of 2v cars and some 3's. I ran it at the track And made 3 passes in it so far. I was using se crappy BFG drag radials and never really hit a good 60ft 14.01@ 99mph was my best result and still spinning of the line pretty hard.
I'm looking into making more power but just don't know what way I should go. I don't want a stroker at the moment but it is in future plans.
I have another set of e7 heads I've been thinking about having worked over but I also have access to a set of gt40's. I've always like building cars with the "better" factory parts so I'm trying to stay that route.. I'd like to be in the upper 280 range. Is this possible with stock ported heads and a cam?

I just copied and pasted my sig for mods below... Too lazy to type it all out...lol
95 Opal frost Gt, PoRnO Red int
Gt40 intake, 1.6 SVO Roller rockers,PP 75mm Tb, MAC CAI, Mac shorties, BBK O/R X, FM 44's with stock pipes, MM motorsports strut tower brace, sn95 convertible k brace, steeda rear sway bar, hotchkis uppers, BBK gripp lowers, aluminum flywheel, spec stage 3 clutch , steeda quadrant and firewall adjuster, pro 5.0 shifter 3:27's

I'm up for any info...so lets hear it.

Deff use the GT40 heads you have. If your buying them, then consider the price (unless its really good) to a used set of heads off here. You often can get used heads off here $700, $800, $900. I would find a set of Trick Flows 170's. Then cam. That depends on your goal, and how and were you want it to pull

Spinning drag radials with basic bolt ons? That's crazy. Also I think you should remove that vert K brace, it really doesn't do much for a hard top car. At least not enough to justify the extra weight! If you want those drag radials to bite better you need to take as much weight off the front as possible.

And yes, if you want to keep stock parts I'd say go for ported stock pieces and you should be fine. Another option is to slap a Vortech S trim on there and enjoy a completely street friendly 12 second car!!

When you're finished with your mods, head to the dyno tuner.

Other than that, practice, practice, practice. Are you only interested in the 1320?

Get those GT40s cleaned up/valve job (no porting required) bolt them on with an Exploder intake, leave the stock cam in there, upgrade the fuel system and install a S-trim. You'll make enough power to split the block with that combo, have stock drivability, stock gas mileage and it won't cost you a crapton of money. If your goal is just 280whp then just minus the S trim and you'll be close. If not going boosted then def add an aftermarket cam but realize that you'll need a tune once you cam it.

And don't go to sleep on those 2V cars either... us modular guys start out with WAAAAY better flowing stuff than the old 5.0s do. Cammed 2Vs with all the "bolt ons" routinely make 300whp.

Agree with the GT40 heads but I'd go for the Compcams XE264HR-12 cam instead of the E303. If you have the GT40 lower intake ported by Tmoss and do a port job on the heads, you could end up somewhere in the 280-300rwhp range.

Thanks for the info guys..I've been doing some more searching and I'm wondering about the steeda #19 cam I've heard they run great with the crap ecu. I will be purchasing a moates quarter horse system soon enough so we shall see what happens.
By no means is my car fast, just runs decently hard for what it is. I've had this car for a year now and it came with a power dyne blower. I bought the car for $1800 with a blown head gasket. The guy just didnt have the money or knowledge to fix it. I know everyone talked loads of crap on that blower but it seemed to run pretty decent. Then the car was virtually stock with none of the previously mentioned bolt on-on but an old mac o/r x pipe really. Car was making nine pounds and ran pretty good. Never had it dynoed or anything and I just tuned it myself the best I could with plug temp range gap timing and so on..then got bored with it and sold it. I'm constantly changing my mind with this car with what I want to do.

What kind of valve sizes should I be looking for for the gt40's?

By the time you done porting the gt40s with new valves/locks/retainers/springs etc... You'll be getting close to the cost of some clean used aluminum heads. Ask me how I know. Not worth it if you ask me. If you can somehow keep it under $500 including the cost of the heads then go for it, if not consider the extra $ for way nicer clean used aluminums. I paid $700 shipped for my 2,000 mile eddy rpm heads a few years ago and they were perfect/made 300whp on a 302.

Just getting them cleaned up with a valve job is fine tho and they are a great head especially with a blower. Best budget build to me on a 302 is always unported gt40 heads/intake, stock cam and a supercharger. Perfect street manners, great low end and will make more power than the stock block can handle.

Also, the ecus in these cars are not garbage. They are faster than the fox computers and can data log too. They just need a tune with an aftermarket cam. Any COMPETENT tuner can do wonders with them.

You need more gear for your current set up IMO the 3.27's are whats killing you. I would upgrade to either some 3.73 or 4.10's but thats me
