I went from an "stock-tuned" 302 with full top end and exhaust (EXCEPT for the California-mandatory h-pipe) to a 331 with 10:1 and a tune. (i.e. the only difference was the stroker shortblock and the tune.)
Not too scientific as my odometer is kerput, but the mpgs didn't change that much. I get about a week's use out of a tank of gas, though now I sweat it, rolling into the station on fumes.

I tell you what, though, it is so difficult to resist mashing the pedal now.

I just did a test today for 100% hwy driving. I filled up completely at a station right off the hwy, drove to Dallas and back on I-20 without any traffic. I kept it at steady 70mph there and back. Filled up at the same station and the same pump. 61.4 miles exactly and used 2.20 gallons exactly to top back off. Just until the pump stopped on it's own both times. A/C blowing Max High the entire way. That comes out to exactly 27.9mpg. Now in town it's a completly differnt story. I get about 13-16 mpg depending on traffic and how heavy my foot is. I have a 331 with a shade over 10.1 comp and a cam with 228-238 duration. It's pretty lopey.

Subscribing...

Keep getting cold feet about doing a nice boosted 331/347 bc of gas mileage. My cobra get 20-22 average and I want to stay close to that. Right now its a stock with flowmaster mufflers and bassani catted x with 3.73 gears

Im getting 12-13 MPG with a 10.5:1 408, thats with a really crappy carb on, LOTS of idle tune time, and a lot of WOT pulls and terrible drive-ability. . i am getting a new carb this week, and i hope to see some better figures.

An interesting question is "mpgs for 331/347 with tuned EFI ". I put a tune on mine, tuned for mpgs, not power, and it really sated the beast's thirst.

For those with lower mpg numbers, that is, anything below 20mpg, is your motor tuned for top power, or tuned at all? And do you spend much time in traffic jams?

Probably depends on the weight of the brick in your right shoe.

I see that sign all the time, and have never tried it...

Funny just took the WRX this weekend and didn't have to fill up until we got there.

Ran with the AFR heads last Sep. & was getting 16/gal, in max boost setup, BUT can acceleration up the hill after Baker (i.e. the one that hit 4500ft) effortlessly now, when in triple digit speed territory... .in 5th...

At least they used the search function, rather than starting a new thread.
