Question High Mileage 5.0's ?

Just cuious if the 5.0's really last a long time.. How long is the norm? I hear about guys with 150k.. What the average a daily driver 5.0 will go without really having some heavy engine repairs needed? Of course I do the reccomended tuneups and oil changes. Just curious because my 94 Cobra has .... 84k now and getting just a tad worried.. Thanks All

104K and not a single engine problem.

The 302 will easily last to 150K and should make it to 250K with good maintenance.

I got 160K out of mine and sold it to my friend, he's still trucking along at 180K with original motor/tranny. The car still hauls and idles well too.

103k miles, 10k with blower, valve springs are probably weak, as they want to float at high rpms, but would last.

Others stuff on 94/95s like clutch, cable, quad, TO bearing, etc is likely to fail first.

160k, 300+ passes, 3 days open track. Drinks a quart of oil in 300 miles if I run 10w30, 3000 miles if 20w50 (guess what I run). Has lost about 50 hp from when <100k, down to 94 mph at strip, used to be 98. Doesn't make any noises, but it's getttttiiiiinnnngggggg ssssssslllllllloooooooowwwwwwwwer.

Trans was replaced at 90k, T5 don't like power shifting. First T5 rebuild at 60k. It got to the point I was removing the tranny monthly to reshim the input bearing. Went to 3550, haven't done much racing since.

112K on my 94 Cobra, still runs strong, 248 RWHP @ 109K (bolt ons). When the oil pan gaskets was replaced the shop said everything looks good. Keep the oil changed and they should last a long time. Probly could change the valve springs.

148rwhp??? You sure youre not running a Honda Civic or Acura Integra Type R? Oh wait those number are high for that car...lol

155,000 on my 94 Cobra with many open track events. Practically everything is original, doesn't even use oil between changes.

Currently have 140k and the thing runs like new. No noises or smoke or anything, and wouldn't hesitate to drive cross country tomorrow. At only 84k, you have nothing to worry about. As someone said above, your drive train should start failing before the motor. And you should should still have plenty of life on that as well considering nothing is abused. Drive hard all you want, but there's a huge difference between driving hard and abusing it. Oh yeah, and 25k of those miles was sprayin' a 125 shot, so to answer your question from my side, they hold up every bit to their reputation.

I have 155K on my 95 GT daily driver. I've only had one problem so far. I had to replace the oil sending unit last week (leaking). cheap fix. mustangs will last into the 200k+ if you take car of them. (oil changes, tune ups). nothings runs like a mustang.

I'm a hair under 153k miles. Man, I sure hate racking up the miles but don't have much choice. No oil use between oil changes here eiteher. Just change the oil religiously and don't beat the living **** out of it every single day and it shouldn't be any problems.

To the original poster:
I bought my car with 81k miles on it! The only thing that has flat out broke was the T-5. It went under normal driving at that. Only other problems are typical problems that higher mileage vehicles have; ie. radiator, water pump, alt., batt., u-joints. Nothing major, just minor things.

Man, I try to keep the miles down. Just hit 77k on my 94 cobra. I have had to replace the clutch, it was slipping, and the water pump. Other then that it runs like new. Does not use a drop of oil between changes. Well, that is after I switched from synthetic oil to semi-synthetic. The full synthetic was being used at a quart every 1500 miles. Their great cars.

182K before I pulled the motor for a 347. Just a little oil leak in the rear seal. Original clutch, looked like it still had life to it.

Someone say high mileage?

I just hit 142k, no oil consumption with 10w30, still kind of peppy.
No funky noises, etc ( knock on wood)

Great little motor. Let's see if it can hit the 248,000 miles that's on the old cop car motor in my Camaro now

I'm at 125,000 and the only parts that have failed me are a couple of batteries and the water pump. I'm still running the original T5 too. Maintenance is the key!

I just rolled over 130k and the only mechanical problem i've had was the water pump. Still runs real strong and am hoping for 12's with some good air, gears and tires. Everyone has already said the key maintenance. And don't beat on it too hard......

148K miles on the original motor, but now has 3/16 end play on the crank... Car still pulls hard, but clanks a little when I push the clutch in hard.... I have a new forged internal 306 going in on Friday, so of course I'll be beating the snot out of it on Thursday night at the drags. Car doesn't smoke, or use that much oil (1/2 qt every 3k miles). I get anywhere from 19-21mpg, while making 250rwhp....

I ran a 13.7 on a rainy night at the track, my 60' were 2.4-5, and i never iced my intake or cooled my car off. I also mentioned tires, meaning drag radials. I think i might have a shot at 12's....we'll see........

I had 269,000 on mine when the car was totalled. It's now being rebuilt. I was on the original T-5 also. Actually smoked an 8.8 before the T-5!

94K here and driven hard every day.

There are some who say that the 5.0 isn't even broken in to its potential until 75k. I dunno about that but I have heard people say that before.

My 90 LX had 187k on it when I sold it. T-5 was original too. Used a quart every 3000, but still ran a corrected 95 mph trap with just pullies. 5.0s are tanks, they run forever.

112,500 and (fingers crossed) the only thing so far is a water pump and a battery. The oil pan gasket has leaked a quart every 2,500 miles since before I bought it at 84K, but I don't think it burns much, if any. Power still right there. For $6,600, I love this car.

93k on mine, and it runs as strong as ever...Hell, it's only been in the shop once in it's life, and that was for an AC recharge. My TA had a worse record before the first year was up.

95 Cobra original owner

FMS extender, BBk headers, Bassani X-pipe, Flowmaster catback, FMS C springs, Hurst shifter, KN, CAI, 190 lph, 3.73 gears, 3220 lbs w/o me, 97k miles

116k here, and it saw 10# of s-trim boost every day for 2 months. and its been seeing 15# of turbo boost a couple times a day for the past week no problems yet.....

Man you guys really rack up the miles. I just rolled 68K. Course this is not my dailer driver. I find I only need to add a quart of oil between 3000 mile oil changes if I beat on it real bad. A couple 5500rpm gear changing traffic light drags for example. Currenlty running 5w30 Mobil 1 full syn. Will probably switch to 10w30 and see if that helps.
