all depends on what final outcome you are looking for. show winning paint or good looking for a driver. i love a good DIY job even with some flaws, over a perfect pro job. i like to drive my cars and a couple flaws will not bother me.
many years ago, we did a pinto in my garage for far less than that. basic old spray gun and air compressor. to be honest, no clue what i was doing and it came out pretty good. my ignorance i think is what made it work, i did not over think and have information overload (it was pre internet).
was it perfect, no, but i think i had less than $300 in the job and it was mine. that was more valuable than some fancy job someone else did.
aren't various companies now offering premixed paints?
