Hey fellas, I'll ask here because Im not sure.. How close is a 78 Mercury Monarch to the Fairmont. Since is a 78 I assume its not built on the fox chassis like the Fairmonts are. I know where a CHERRY little Monarch is.. Just needs a little clean up and the stock hub caps back on. 302 auto Blue int, bench seat. I would LOVE to have it..

No, it very similar to the Maverick.Growing up a guy near me had a Monarch GS with a 351 3+1 stick on the floor and 4 wheel disc brakes all factory original.

I could be wrong, but I think the Monarch/Granada were built on an entirely different floor pan ---- don't know if stuff is directly transferable like it is between a Fairmont and a Fox Stang -- both Fox-chassis based. I also think the Monarch and Granada were notably heavier than the fox-based vehicles.

Several years ago I sold my 78 Futura to a guy locally (NW chicago area.) He then sold it on ebay about a year ago. It was a red 78 Futura, completely restored interior that was gray, it had an 86 Mustang dash and wiring harness in the car, had an 8.8, all the torque boxes weldedup, manual steering, etc. Had Javelin wheels on it. I know it went to the east coast. This car was damn near spotless, paint was faded. Just curious to see if anybody on here has the car. Id be curious to see how it progressed. I am currently building another 78, however this one is the 2 door sedan a box on wheels. I can not wait til its completed, its completely ridiculous.

Sounds like you're having fun with it Ken --- keep us posted as the 408 comes along. Do you have to cowl the hood for the 9.5" deck motor to clear? Are you planning on any uni-body reinforcement (cage, for example) when you put the 'torquer' in there?

wow, never expected this much interest in fairmonts and other foxes.
i should be starting in a week or two. i'll document everthing so others who have not done this swap will get a idea of how its done. i'm transferring my tubular k member, motor, trans, sc, fi, rear, etc to the fairmont. haven't decided if i will be doing the stang dash, but i may after seeing Ken's dash. i'll either find some web space or show the build up here. except for little cam and the supercharger whine it's gonna be fun having a 10 second sleeper!

Emerald, where did you get the seat cover from, and was it hard to put on?
