Cheap 500 horse N/A 351W

OK, I want to build a reliable 351. I don't care if it is carbed, or fuel injected. I don't mind if it is a stroker, or stock displacement. I also would not mind if it didn't rev to the moon. It would be for a road race type of car, not 1/4 mile. I guess the main goal is reliability.

500 hp is never cheap, and rarely easy or reliable however....

That said you will need a stroker do achieve those numbers unless you have a roler roller HUGE headed 351 and wound the hell out of it. Not exactly road race friendly.

393-427CI witha head that flows ~205 on the intake side like AFR, Vic Jr, and the TFS-R with a matching intake and a custom cam should get you there or pretty close.

Not exactly cheap, but pretty solidly reliable.

Im going to go 408 w/ the vic jr heads out of the box. Going to stay with a OTS grind cam for now, somewhat street friendly comp 292h, its a 244/244 cam. It should putt putt around town pretty good in the lower rpms ( I have 4.10s ) and I will be able to spin it up when I want to. Should make power to at least 6500.

ok, lets throw cheap out of the window and say 13k tops on budget. I want to see what power can be made for the price of crazy crate motors.

Not really...................I spent upwards of that doing my 418. 11.25:1 comp, TFS "R" heads, super victor intake, 1000cfm demon, kooks 1 7/8 headers ect. With an all new exhuast/ignition/fuel system it gets pricey. Mine made the #'s in sig.

You can do a cheap reliable 500 hp windsor for half that. I build them all the time. Now a 700 hp windsor is more like 8 thousand maybe but 13K you can do almost anything you want outside of exotic stuff.

I am going to have right at 3500 in my setup, and it should make near 500. A twin turbo setup will put you there easy.

Why, to build up a motor right to take a blower/turbo ect.....cost the same as what I put into my motor. Then you still need to buy a blower/turbo setup. Granted, maybe I "overbuilt" mine to some peoples specs but it's what I wanted.

I was looking at that, and it seems like a great motor. I love the warranty. But for that motor, do you really think the $$$ ads up?

408, ~10.5:1 comp. vic jrs, vic jr heads, 850-1050 carb? havent decided yet. Im gonna go with a OTS comp cam 292h for now. When I get my truck done I will go custom and alot bigger since I wont need to DD it.

With used stuff, forged:

Block/crank ~1k-2k
Rods/pistons - ~1k
Heads - a modest 3000 for a real set
intake - if he stays carb'd ~300
Carb - 500 brand new, + a few hundred maybe to be mod'd for blow through.

That is used, with a 13k budget you could buy almost everything brand new, two rebuilt/new turbos and the plumbing and youd be set.

WHY go all motor? When you could spend the same amount and make 800-900+?

Block / crank / pistons / rods / rings / bearings / cleaning up = 2,500

heads - Box stock TFS-Rs - 1800?

victor sr intake w/ efi bungs from edlibrock - 400ish?

custom cam - 300

+ a T trim / Novi 2K + air to air / air to water / meth injection - 3.5k

Fuel system - 1000+

Hell I'll just sell you mine !!!

Just kidding , I'd say go with a 383 stroker for road racing . Use a Afr 205 or Vic Jr head , Victor jr intake , 825-850 cfm carb or efi setup and a custom roller cam and you should hit the mark for around 8K-10K complete .

well right now I am jsut going to work on my mustang with the 306. I am going to spray it with juice, and a few of the other bolt on mods, and hopefully run VERY low 11's. Once I am done with that it is time to start looking at a long term project. I am thinking about financing a factory 5 coupe. I would want to see 500 horse, and I don't want to go forced induction on it. I know FI would make things perfectly simple, but I am trying to steer clear of that.

well forced induction would get you to 500 horse a lot cheaper than N/A. A mild build and a supercharger and you are there already.

IN a STOCK BLOCK? Even in a 351 block, 800-900 hp is to much IHMO.

Funny to do all of that when the block that should house a 800-900hp motor cost that much.
