The cam in the motor determines the firing order so swapping firing order with the same cam is not gonna do anything but stop it from running. Both are EFI? If both are EFI then you may have to swap your computer.

Good luck on your swap over.

even if you dont know what the firing order is,

it can be figured out.

number one is allways first.
find it..
make the dampener t.d.c. mark align up with the pointer.
then
just rotate crank with a wrench one quarter of a turn,
whatever the cylinder is that both valves are closed,
it the next cylindewr that is supposed to fire....
it is probably #5,
or
#3

this is the answer....

302 non HO uses the 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 firing order
302 HO and 351 use the 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8

http://www.classictrucksweb.com/tech...t_alternative/
351W (Windsor)
When swapping parts between these engines, the most confusion surrounds the camshafts. Camshafts will interchange, but the 351W has a different firing order (1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8) compared to the 289/302 (1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8). Compounding the situation, the '82-and-later 302 HO engines use the 351W firing order.

The roller cam didn't make the 302 an HO. Ford was putting hydraulic flat tappet cams in the 302 HO before they went to the roller cam
