Difference between emission and non-emission heads

Hey all,

I am building a 408w for my 94 GT. I don't have to worry about emissions here. I was wondering what the difference would be between a AFR 185 emissions legal head and a 205 non-emissions head? I mean i know one is emissions legal and the other is not. I am talking about physical connections on the head. I don't like having a lot of vaccum hoses and stuff laying around my engine bay that don't go to anything. I am wondering if i get rid of all emissions stuff under my hood will that be a problem? I would really rather run the 205 since they would be much better for a 408. But if it is too much hassle to get rid of or work around all the emission stuff then i will just go with the 185.

Thanks,
Shawn

no- the only thing that qualifies the head to be "emission's friendly" is the EGR passage on the inside parts of heads between the 2 and 3 and 5 and 6 cylinders- this port runs from the intake to the exhaust vavle on the outside of each head- if you have this passageway then your head is "smog legal"

there is also a thermactor passage on the back on each head that the stock thermactor air tube bolts to on an OEM head but they are not required to pass emissions since air only goes to that air tube for about 30 seconds after intial cold-start start-up then the air from air pump is routed to the H-pipe via a metal tube on the pass side.

my emission legal Gt40p heads do not have the thermactor port but will (or I atleast hope they will) pass emissions.
