Whats the best way to Remove Distributor gear and Shaft??
Hey guys Im ready to mount a new Pickup coil and Module on my Stock distributor..I have Both Pins knocked out of the Distributor shaft but I cant get the Distributor gear off to save my life..What is the best way to get the Gear off without damaging it..I need this Distributor apart tonight so I can change its Pickup ASAP..BTW, Yes the Distributor is Part of the Engine so thats why I posted it in this Forum Mods

I tried doing the same thing, I got the pin of but I could take of the gear. There is a tool to take it off, but you need to find a machine shop to put holes in your new dist. gear. The one I bought from FRP didnt have one. Ask you machine shop and see if you even have to. It should cost more than like $30

Im not installing a Brand new Gear on the shaft..I just need to remove the factory steel gear so I can disassemble the Distributor and replace the Pickup coil under the Rotor..The pickup is the Part that the Modules 3 plugs slide into..After im done, I just need to put the Factory stel gear back on it and Start the car.. If you do it yourself, make sure you go get some new roll pins. Puter did mine for me and he had a press. Mark the housing and gear before popping it off as it is tricky to get it all lined back up and you definitely dont want to have to press it off and on multiple times. If you don't want to fool with it, do as these guys say. Take it to a machine shop and let them do it. The charge would be minimal I am sure.
