Hey dude I think that not bad numbers! I have just about the same set up on my notch. Mine is 308ci with 80mm mass air meter 30# injectors. I was hoping that I could get around 325 hp. With my notch weighting 2750 lbs I’m hoping that I will have some good track #

Very nice. Did you adjust the timing any, if so how did the hp numbers compare? Just curious, because Im running tw heads and everyone is saying 16-18 timing.

As far as track #'s... they suck because I have to let out of second three times, the thing will not stop spinning!!!!!!! It's a conv, so the weight distribution is even worse. I ran a best of 13.6 @ 105 with a 2.3 60 foot. Since then though I've added sub frames so it might help. I'm pretty sure with slicks it's got 12.7's in it. In jan I'm getting some 17's with drag radials, then we'll see what she'll do!

As far as the timing, I started at 16 and ran out of dyno time to try and take it any higher. I don't think going 17 or 18 would make that much diff though, and wouldn't be worth the chance of pinging the motor.

Thanks for the replys!!!!!!!

Nice #'s. Can you post the graph? 18* timing is where TFS TW heads seem to like timing. My car does not ping and it didnt ping when I tried 20* either. My advice is to make some passes on 16*, then bump it to 18* and see what happens.

Paul-- I am still very please with what the car did yestday! I have been giving it alot of thought today, and looking around, I am still going to stick with some Trick Flows, and a Holley, leave my cam in it, and see what happens

The motor likes to rev, it made peak HP at 5600 and peak torque at 4500 so my guess is that this thing would be best shifted at around 6500-6800 at the track, but need a rpm extender first.

I do regret not bumping the timing to 18 and seeing what it would have done. I will be adding an ignition box and distributor soon, so I'll go back to the dyno in hopes of around 325RWHP with those plus 18 degrees, we'll see!

Thanks for the replys, it's nice to hear my combo worked out for the best!

No need for an extender with what you have. There is NO reason to be shifting that thing any higher than about 6100, and thats just the 1-2, your 2-3 and 3-4 shifts should be at around 5900 for the best times. You need more cam to be able to shift it higher than that, and probably should have more to utilize that intake.

Be careful, these heads are good about not pinging but seem to like less advance up top.

I've tried to post the graph but I can not figure out how to put a pic on this website. So either tell me how to, or post your email and I'll send it to you. Either way I'd be happy so show you!

Nice graph. The torque really stayed above 300, didn't it?

Now that the graph is posted ( thanks 95snleen!) do you guys have any comments or suggestions?
How more power do you think it will make once I get a new MSD distributor and a 6AL Ignition Box?
What kind of times do you guys think the heavy 87 GT Conv is capable of running if everythin were to fall into place ie: traction, good driving ect....?

Well ASSuming you are about 200lbs, and the car is full weight, making raceweight about 3550, you should be able to see a trap speed around 108-109. The time you get all depends on traction, but optimumly you can put up a 12.20-12.30 with that trap. DId you try 18-20 initial timing? What are your cam specs?

Cam Specs....

Lift .536Int / .536Exh
Dur 276Int / 279Exh
Dur @ .050 224Int / 226Exh
Lobe Sep 110

I really kick myself for not trying more Timing while at the Dyno, but from what I've heard on other combos I thought 16 was pretty high. I guess these TFS TW's like 18 degrees though.

Cam is pretty small man, makes the numbers more impressive. Are the headers 1 5/8? Did you open up the collectors to the full 2.5" (they come 2 1/4 stock). Little timing and MAYBE a pound or two fuel pressure might have given you 10-15 or so more hp. Couple ideas for ya.

1) It is a custom cam from Panhandle Performance
2) No I didn't open the header collector b/c I wasn't sure how it would seal up, but next time they come off they will be opened up.
3) Next dyno pull will be with 18 degrees timing and 38-40 psi of fuel press.

Thanks for the replys!
