car wont start after MAF conversion

its in 88 5.0L.

i have an 89 wiring harness with a 93 cobra ECU, Mass Air Meter, and injectors.

it has fuel and spark and the timing appears to be good as well.

what is the problem? it wont run at all.

I don't believe a cobra came in auto.

Do you still have the auto o2 harness on the car?

I see you listed an auto to t-5 conversion.

I believe the auto harness (o2) used with a 5spd ECM will fry the ecm.

There is a long well documented thread about this subject, use the search.

I used the auto O2 harness with the stock 88 ECM before i converted to mass air and had no problems. are you saying that since that ECM was also for an Auto, that that is why this new ECM isnt working?

if the ECM wasnt working, then why would i still have fuel pressure? wouldnt it not run the fuel pump too?

ive done some research and the o2 harness is fine for my year. if i had a wiring harness from a 91 or older is when it might fry the ECU. because they had a different o2 harness in those years.

so the o2 harness sounds like that is not the problem.

anthing else it might be?

auto harness and 5speed ECM do NOT work, regardless of year.

so what do you mean yours is fine?

Remove the computer, the hook up a volt meter between PIN 46 on the computer connector(on the car) and a good ground...clutch down, crank the engine with no computer and check for any voltage while cranking on pin 46...if you see any voltage, the o2 harness is set up wrong and your computer is fried...but fixable...

I had the same problem when I converted my 87 to mass air. I had spark fuel and timing was good but it wouldn't turn on. I had forgotten to change the MAP sensor on the firewall to MAF sensor. Did you change yours out? If not give that a try

All you need to do is disconnect the vacuum line to the one you have now. That is all I did to mine and it works fine.

i tried that last night. does not start still. here is a picture of the sensor i have. the numbers on here do not match the sensor i found on latemodel though. do i have the right one?

this one is mine.

here is the one from late model
1989-93 Mustang 5.0L Barometric Air Pressure Sensor (Bap Sensor) at LRS - Same Day Shipping!

maybe thats my problem?

im still not ruling out that i might have the wrong o2 harness and i might have fried the ECM.

when you unplug the vac line, you also have to cap it off(the line, not the sensor) or else you'll have a vacuum leak.

go back and complete and/or re-check each of these steps, theres more to it than just changing the computer
