390 FE Build-up reccommendations?
I need some parts reccomendations for a 390 FE engine. My goal is to have a torquey strong engine that has a fast chop / hard hitting musclecar sound on pump gas. Do you know of a camshaft under .550 lift that will do the job and what heads are more desirable? It has the late 50's model 352 heads and edelbrock intake with the 428 cam now but the cam sounds lazy. Thanks

The F.E. is my passion. I know a fare amount about them, with more to learn. I had a very nice running one until I blew it up. I would be glad to discuss this with you over the phone.I feel we could come up with a nice combination. Please E-Mail me if you would like to discuss. r-jmetzger@verizon.net Richard Metzger

I have a C4AE-B 427 cam, Lifters, and Push rods that came out of my 406. I want $200.00 OBO for it all. Plus shipping.

I have heard that past .550 lift cams, you need shaft end supports, heavier shafts and rockers or breakage will occur. Also I don't want to have piston to valve clearance problems with stock replacement pistons.

Did you have to notch the pistions or were they made for large diameter valves?

what about a crane 343941 camshaft and edelbrock rpm intake. Are those late 352 heads big port? if they need work do a little clean up or throw in some decent valves and get some headers. Good 370-400hp and 450tq!

Check out this site.
http://www.network54.com/Forum/74182 The guys over there are FE fanatics and some of the top guys around. I am personally a dummy, but love the FEs and I have learned a ton about them on that board.
